I am a very strange sort, according to those that know me, and I am sure some of the things I do may seem odd;like hypnotising a fly.
In the wee hours one morning, It was raining, and I was almost asleep, suffering from CRT eye-burn and boredom, and the relaxing sound or rain.
A fly landed on the desk in front of me, and I decided to try to sneak up on him,if possible.
I opened my hands and extended my index finger of each hand an equal distance, approximately 6 inches, away from the fly, one hand on each side.I slowly closed the gap, moving both hands equally.I figured he would lift off when I got too close, but to my surprise, he did not move, and I was able to pinch him between my fingers.
A sick fly, I thought, or sleepy, like me,and I forgot about it for a while.Later, I decided to try it again, this time in the middle of the day, in full light, and wide awake.
It still works! I have tried this many times with many flies, and it always works!
Somehow, the effect of objects closing in from both sides at the same rate jams the fly-brain computer.
Would flying into a cone have the same effect?
Try it, and let me know your results. This could have far reaching consequences for pest control and possibly even radar.
