How to Hypnotise a Fly

05/28/2013 11:26 AM

I am a very strange sort, according to those that know me, and I am sure some of the things I do may seem odd;like hypnotising a fly.

In the wee hours one morning, It was raining, and I was almost asleep, suffering from CRT eye-burn and boredom, and the relaxing sound or rain.

A fly landed on the desk in front of me, and I decided to try to sneak up on him,if possible.

I opened my hands and extended my index finger of each hand an equal distance, approximately 6 inches, away from the fly, one hand on each side.I slowly closed the gap, moving both hands equally.I figured he would lift off when I got too close, but to my surprise, he did not move, and I was able to pinch him between my fingers.

A sick fly, I thought, or sleepy, like me,and I forgot about it for a while.Later, I decided to try it again, this time in the middle of the day, in full light, and wide awake.

It still works! I have tried this many times with many flies, and it always works!

Somehow, the effect of objects closing in from both sides at the same rate jams the fly-brain computer.

Would flying into a cone have the same effect?

Try it, and let me know your results. This could have far reaching consequences for pest control and possibly even radar.

It is also unsanitary.

Fly swatters take the worry out of being close.

Fly swatters take the worry out of being close.
My boss has one of those electronic flyswatters, gives a heck of a shock when i touched it. Has to be some sort of a cap giving the shock value.

Yes... this is true. You will be able to recreate it every time. I have been told that the brain of the fly can only process one "event" at a time and when there are two "events", represented by your two hands, the fly cannot process the information.

Sounds allot like some politicians I know of.

I used to do that with certain former managers I had. I would ask them two questions with conflicting answers the toss a subtle third one in that I wanted my answer for.

So is that a yes for question three?

Huh? Um... Sure. yes.

Ever notice how the flies disappear when you bring out the flyswatter?

How about wall paper in a fly swatter pattern?

Would it repel flies, or just make the ones you have extremely nervous, like the sheep in Montana?

Ever wonder why when you swat one, 12 more come around to see what happened? Because they are CIA spy devices.

The things we do when were bored.

In high school freshman chemistry. Caught a fly, and my chemistry partner was a long hair brunette, I asked her for a strand. She being a good trooper and wondering what I was going to do with that one Long strand, she gave me one.

I called the fly, george, I tied one end to george and held on the other end. made a nice little leash as the fly buzzed around.

Chemistry teacher saw it and told me I can't bring pets into class......... Unless we were going to disect it.

phonenix911 - that has a much more amusing outcome when the young lass is unaware of her hair being tied to a fly AND its still attached to her head....

Would flying into a cone have the same effect?

Try it, and let me know your results.

It took a while to build a cone large enough to fly into. The deceleration was stunning, and the wings ripped right off the plane. Frankly I'm surprised I survived your little experiment.

Re: How to Hypnotise a Fly

You are now to be called "Conehead".....Wasn't that a film? I don't know whether that was the name in English or not.....

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106598/

I used to make "landmines" for flies using a chemical called "Nitrogen tri-iodide" (spelling questionable. No don't bother correcting me.....)

When dry, it reverts to being a gas in a very short time and makes a loud bang, depending on the amount. Pin head size will cleanly remove the fly's head.....

The amount as large as a pin head could be clearly heard up to 50 feet away.....

It burns not, its a cold reaction, but does leave a large stain of iodine for an hour, till it evaporates at least....Once the ammonia dries out, even a hair dragged over it causes it to explode....keep it wet to keep it safe(r)!!!

I also had a trick with killing flies with my hands and mouth, but as to whether its anything to do with Fly brain sensory overload, I could not say for certain.

You do need reasonable lung capacity for it to work. Smokers may have problems....

If a fly lands in front of you, start blowing a stream of air over it, slowly at first. The fly will cling onto where its at. Gradually increase the air speed, it will cling on harder and harder.

Reach round behind it and squish it......works most times if done correctly. (wash hands immediately!)

It appears that the fly simply cannot "let go" quickly.......try it out.

Be prepared for a few failures till you get the air speed right.....start slow and work up

If you start too fast, it simply flies away...

Do you want to impress your friends?Catch a fly in mid flight with your hands. How? You ask?I am in my mid 60's and can still do it.The trick is not to use a closed hand.Use an open hand until the last instant, then close your fingers, otherwise, the air pressure will trigger a reaction from the fly and you will miss.

To catch a fly sitting on a table, swing slightly above the fly. They always take off straight up. Grab where he will be, not where he is.

Want to slice a fly in half with a pocket knife?

Sorry! I am not telling you that one.

It's amazing what a small (appx. .5cc) amount injected into a motorcycle seat of a methhead thief with a hypodermic does to testicles. The result might draw flies.

Re: How to Hypnotise a Fly

This may relegate me to a particular camp, but I don't kill flies. I try to communicate with them though their intelligence and perception vary as much as it does with humans. I slowly approach a fly with a finger and place it 1/4" in front. Mentally suggesting the fly climb onto my finger... It does. After just a few minutes, the fly will come to me when I want and land only on my finger or back of hand. Never do I get buzzed around the face or in any way bothered. I ask that the flies limit themselves to only three in the house and they do. When I move to another room, they come with me, but only at a distance unless I offer my hand. Other folks who swat flies get buzzed and annoyed, but all those who know me, will vouch to this relationship. I have a similar involvement with bees. No stinging, though I've had my hands covered with bees. Much too easy to kill them, to kill them. Feed, observe, enjoy and move on.

This is a clear case of mis-guided intentions.

HTRN, what would we do without your humor? Great thing to do on a rainy day.

You reminded me of something. Although I have never tried it, I have been told that if you put a frog in a pot of water, and warm it up slowly, the frog will not jump out and will get cooked.

Hornet traps have a cone entrance. The hornet gets inside and can't get out (no place to put it's legs?).

From my empirical evidence, flies are not really particular what type of sh-- they eat.

One tur- is as good as another to them.

However,they do have manners.

For instance:

Two flies land on a tur- and one of them farts."Hey! Knock it off, will ya,I'm trying to eat over here!"

how to hypnotize anything - is you have to have an eye contact with the subject and have a clear powerful thought of you inquiry describing the wished outcome and you have to LOVE it or!!! something else ULTIMATELY covering also your demand.

disclaimer: with the animals we have a bit of a problem coz 'hey appare to be in "enlighted" state all the time duing to spirit higger than YOU - you'd had to disconnect that link first - or point'em a false god for a while - i doubt if there is a clear definition reliable routine for such - but what might work is you google what kind of s##t the flys like most and start feeding them instead of killing of they might like to give a helping hand for you in return :p

When I was a schoolboy I had to pass the asylum on my way to school, one of the inmates at the asylum showed me a beetle he had trained to march to order. I was amazed but sure enough, it did march and turn etc. when he gave the order. Then he stripped the legs of it and tried again with no success, proving his point that beetles hear with their legs.
