	why we cannot use nut and bolt arrangment on quadrants of a flange?why we keep offset from center line?

	"why we keep offset from the center line?" Do you mean why not use square flanges and only 4 bolts ? Just yesterday I saw a flange (9 bar water) where the nut who installed it only used 4 bolts and a rectangular packing with width barely bigger than the pipe ID. 	In 1960s one of our engineers went to West Germany for training and on his return he introduced the material-saving method/technique in flange packing. The inner diameter of the packing obviously was inner diameter or bore of pipe but outer diameter was inner diameter of flange holes. While installing you first insert 2 bolts at the bottom most holes of the flange,keep the packing supported by 2 bolts, then put other bolts & tighten evenly. __________________ pnaban
