Cell Phone Antennas

10/18/2013 5:53 PM

This past week, I observed two "cellphone" antenna masts atop a building. There were mounted approx 50 feet apart and each had 6 vertical panels. The interesting thing about this; each mast was rotating maybe 15 RPMs, one CW, the other ACW. Has anyone else observed these and what is the purpose? Please no comments about "circular polarization".

If those antennas were in some way connected with government surveilance, I wouldn't be surprised.

they rotate like that so anyone who ventures close to them will cook evenly

Sounds more like vertical wind turbines....

Yes, and they rotate in opposite directions so the world doesn't get all wound up.

It's all to do with the Coriolis Effect. Or at least, that's what Del said.

"one CW, the other ACW"

Is ACW anything like CCW?

If one's going one way, and one's going the other, then they must be generating Alternating Current.

I didn't mention polarization, really.

Is that anything like 'anti-intuitive' ?

.

Perhaps 'extuitive' would suffice.

ACW is more commonly used this side of the pond.

A photo would be nice. Are you sure they were cellphone antenna masts?

I have seen cell towers that are made to look like trees (really symmetrical trees) in order to blend in with the surroundings, but nothing with moving parts. SolarEagle may be right.

Odd, sounds more like some form of anemometer or vertical wind turbine, does it look similar to this?

10-15 Watt 12V Vertical Wind Turbine Power Generator.

Oops, sorry, duplicate response, SE got it first.

Yeah, but still warrants a GA. I have never known a cell tower to have moving parts!

Just make sure your tinfoil hat fits snugly. Or maybe I should say aluminium foil.

Your mention of tinfoil is quite alarming. There is no metal sheeting to (primarily) cover and seal food items or make cranial coverings to block mind-control signals made with Sn anymore! Al (the element, pronounced al-u-min-um) is now used for these applications.

Nope al-u-mi-num!!!

I learned that from the 50's cartoon show, The Ruff And Reddy Show. They visited a metal planet called Munimula.

The Hanna-Barbera cartoonists couldn't possible be wrong.

I think Solar Eagle and RamConsult have it. The picture RamConsult posted is strikingly similar. It was on the other side of San Juan, where I have little reason to visit. As the trip was a waste of time, and I seldom carry a good camera, I doubt that I will get a photo. As for the ACW and CW, first it is possible the dyslexia was acting up, it has caused similar issues in the past, some with costly results. The other is I have seen ACW written several times, I just ASSuMed it was there to confuse the older folks

Thanks to all

.. and since we are looking at a vertical axis wind turbine and not a cell phone tower, let me add that the owner got taken by the biggest scam in renewable energy. Vertical axis wind turbines are more expensive and work less efficiently than horizontal axis wind turbines, no matter the circumstances. Put another way, if the location where you want to sit a HA wind turbine is deemed poor, do not sit one there. General guidelines call for a one year site measurements, as tall a tower as you can muster, and away from trees, houses or other buildings. The idea is that you want a regular wind supply. Add a good dose of common sense and you will avoid getting taken. Anything that sounds too good to be true, is... and the law of physics are amazingly tenacious. Solar is a better bet on 90% of the US territory.

Googling "rotating cell phone tower" will bring up a page titled "Ericsson Crosses Mobile Phone Tower With Vertical Axis Wind Turbine".

Whilst you believe them to be cell-phone towers, and quite a few other believe them to be VAWT (we used to call them windmills, but that is too simple these days), I have it on good authority these are the tuning beacons for creating a singularity in advance of an alien (from outer space) invasion. We need to start building the Jaegers now so that we will have a fleet large enough of these behemoths (complete with multiple diesels engines and a core nuclear reactor to power the advanced weapons systems, by the time my calculations indication the first aperture will open.

I am just joking, but it would be a large construction project that would create millions of jobs. I think we should do it, and let China finance the whole thing.l
