Most interesting and scary, leaving the unanswered question from people external to the USA: What the living hell is American Government scared of? Its own people? Outside people? Or a fantasy world of make believe?

Oops. Probably nothing. It looks like employees were still stationed at the prison as union "busywork". Doing nothing and getting paid for it. The guard probably thought his job was on the line.

It was odd to see an NBC affiliate covering this story in a broadcast. GE, the parent company, has received billions in free money, and the TV division typically can be relied upon as loyal lapdogs.

Although the local stations sometimes accidentally wander off the reservation. I'm sure the poor sap has been thoroughly scolded and put in his place.

This is part of the problem with some members of the public who value their own freedoms above those protections put in place for the general good. This prison is no different than any other. Members of the public (which the reporter self-identified as) are not allowed to make recordings of most state sensitive federal facilities.

Even though the film crew was informed that they could not film the prison and they said they would go film Grant's Cottage...they stopped along the way and shot footage of what they called a film crew on the prison grounds. So they lied about what they were going to do, did the exact opposite and then put it all on TV.

Media spin and self-righteousness at its finest. The media would crap all over themselves, slobbering and drooling over the facts if they found another bombing suspect had footage, drawings, photos etc. of a target...and why didn't the police do anything about it?

Remember why we have an Electoral College. Those who deemed themselves fit to govern, (basically the wealthiest individuals) in the late 18th century, did not trust the general populace to make rationale decisions, but could not suggest another monarchical type system. Has anything changed. Those in charge do not trust us and must spy on us to keep us in check.

How does the average person give up their trust, hoping that the elected one does not go rogue. It's like bungeee jumping and trusting somebody to use either stretchy stuff or rawhide. Brit poloitics covered. Next.....

Our total system was built upon an inherent mistrust/understanding/acceptance of human nature, particularly as it exists within government. Despite the fact that we are willingly allowing bad people to destroy that system, it remains, (in my mind), the single most brilliant design of, (limited), government that humans have ever dreamed up.

It sucks to see it gasping it's last breath.

It doesn't suck at all. Why should we consider ourselves in some way special or difrferent. As 'sheeple' we can become etxtinct. Destiny is what people make it.

If ET ever turns up, who will he/she pick to talk to. If they decided to do some gardening, we might be in for a bad day. I'd look at this planet and conclude we are the annoying weeds. That's not so, but it might be how we are seen - an infestation.

Beat the old system - King George III was a bit of a tyrant. I understand that he believed he was put there by God, did he not? Talk about scary.

But that is the reason for the Electoral College - a last shot for the elite to be sure to get the wrong person doesn't get in there. Don't think it was ever used that way, but we have it just in case.

This all seems like history repeating itself across the pond. Oliver Cromwell and the puritans. The English Civil War. Then it was the round heads, now it seems it is the bone heads. And I still find this all bizarre, scary and unbelievable that this is going on in the USA and people are tolerating it. But I hazard a guess it is going on in the UK, Europe, Australia, Africa and anywhere else the USA Gov has blackmailed their way into.

Sorry need to dash, I have some burly, well dressed gents, wearing dark glasses at the door, they may need a cup of tea and some light refreshments.

Take for instance a scenario in a country were the inhabitants are native or have come to harvest the resources available, say for example trappers for animal furs.

These trappers bring their furs to a central point where a merchant trades with them. This central point becomes a source for news which may or may not be accurate.

What would be your take on how this would evolve?

HISTORY repeats itself (humans are dumb), and it does so without regard to whether that repetition is GOOD or BAD.

Atilla-the-Hun, Hitler, or Sadam -- there's always gonna be somebody who feels HE/SHE knows "best" regardless of what the peons actually want.

And, that HISTORY REPETITION will apply to USA, GB, Russia, Iran, China, et.al.

Also, the right to be a villain or a good guy. But reality, this is pretty scary, sooner or later the higher ups will run a simulation test with political agenda advantage to them of course and we are the ones to be played (under the pyramid)-the common masses/ ordinary people.

What many others forget is that by switching off your Mobile, battery out and leaving it at home, you are not spied upon anymore..... US cellphones sold have mostly a built in GPS "Spy" in them since 2005 I believe, mandated by law I believe!!!

But so many want the "convenience" of a cell phone.....but complain and complain when the simple solution lies in their own hands, DON'T BUY ONE!!!

I have my GPS in my phone by choice!! I am also not a possible terrorist threat either....

Many terrorists, even today, have not learnt that, to the joy of the secret services!!!

........AND IT IS SO SIMPLE TO DO!! Simply switching off, also removing the battery is also required on some too!

I think the NSA has no problem sucking up all calls through the cell towers. These portable units seem to be more intended for various law enforcement agencies to do the same without bothering with pesky warrants.
