Are Higher Gas Prices Better for Manufacturing?

Posted August 13, 2008 8:00 AM

In a recent cover story, Industry Week reports increasing orders for automation equipment. At the same time, Ford and Toyota are retooling truck/SUV plants to produce smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Is the connection between a resurgent U.S. manufacturing market and rising gasoline prices as simple as it appears to be?

Could Others Take Control?

Posted July 21, 2008 8:20 AM

Wireless networks are everywhere, from individual homes to the shop floor. Have you thought of what might happen if someone gained unauthorized access to your company network? In addition to being able to access proprietary information, they might wreak havoc with your automation equipment. What have you done to protect against this?

Are Safety Regulations Helping You, or Hurting You?

Posted June 21, 2008 8:23 AM

Safety standards for robots and users of robots are continually being added to and upgraded. But are they really being improved? Have stringent safety standards slowed the entrance of service robots to society? Or have work places become more dangerous as they have automated, even with the safety regulations? How would you change the current procedure for devising and updating standards?

What Needs to Be Improved?

Posted April 19, 2008 8:28 AM

Improvements in 3D vision and processing power have been major contributors to robot evolution. It appears that the next big driver in this evolution is the need for robots which can function in non-structured environments, completing non-routine tasks. How will advances in this area benefit you and your automation needs?
