If you've been in or around engineering for any length of time, then you've heard the argument that we just don't have enough engineers in this country. This argument always rang hollow with me. If there was such a big shortage, I reasoned, shouldn't salaries be higher? Well, as it turns out, a new study finds that there's no shortage after all. Instead, many of the brightest engineering graduates are pursuing careers in finance, law, and other non-technical fields. Why? Because they pay better. No big surprise there, eh? So, is there a shortage, or is the pay just too low?
