Hi - Macker here .........
Strand V7-2.4 or greater is OK .............. But hard to find a demo copy .... It is also know as Straus7 .... but only for static structures
I have Inventor 2008 Pro ..... it has a FE add-on ..........
I have yet to try it on a project ... but it looks OK, for Von-miss Stress indication for all things .... moving machines cause FE packages heaps of trouble .... like seeing the stresses in a turbo-charger, ect .....
Best regards. ...................... from "Down-Under"

If you want to determine the resisting force of the building structures, you can check and try it at the given link below. However, if you want to establish the applied load to be used to design the building structures, I suggest that you consult an structural engineer. There are different treatments dependent on your locations.
You try this link www.calculatoredge.com Try to browse the Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering.
It will be helpful besides it is a freeware.

Strand7 is a very good mid-level FE package. Not as expensive as Nastran / Marc etc. however it only provides analysis capabilities and reporting.
Robot Millenium is very good for Frames and FE analysis. It also has design modules for Codes from different countries for member strength verification.
