Applications for Specialized Electroplating?

06/23/2009 3:00 AM

In the last 10 years, I was manufacturing Glass-to-Metal (hermetic Seals) products for microelectronics industries. Recently my company closed down and I established a new electroplating factory. From the Glass-to-Metal Process, I have the capability to do the electroplating that the plated parts can sustain and keep its performance without defects after Glass Fusion Process, i.e. about 900-1000 degree C for 60 minutes. Although it is a very special electroplating technology and process, I do not know how and where to sell this service to the customers. Does anyone can tell me any industries or products that need such technology and application?

Hi Vermin,

The frame and glasses are seperated for sunglasses, and the frame is come with normal plating of Nickel (and/or Gold). Do you have any idea that my special electroplating treatment could apply on sunglasses frame for special application?

No, but what about electroplating the lens. A lot of off-the-shelf sunglasses use glass lens. Using different metals and masks, I'm betting you could come up with some interesting effects.

Also, what about the semiconductor industry? Isn't there someone out there that needs glass wafers electroplated with aluminum, arsenic, iridium, etc.?

How about frying pans used for cooking?.

I have experience to plate Electroless Nickel-PTFE (Telfon) on Aluminium material for semiconductor product that requires high temperature for curing process for IC chips. To provide non-stick performance on frying pans, currently the manufacturers use Telfon or anodizing that costs cheaper with not so satisfactory result. Electroless Nickel-PTFE may be cost more but I will try its performance and the food regulations. Thanks.

What different metals you can plate.

At that high temperature one may need to look metal like gold and platinum. Does you do metal which can also make seal at relatively low temperature say between 300 to 500C.

If it is then you can contact me on Masyood@gmail.com

Since my products are metal packages, flat packages and TO-series Headers. The base metals are Copper, Steel, Kovar, Nickel alloys, Copper-Tungsten alloys and Molybdenum & its alloys (as well the Aluminium Alloys and Zinc Alloys for electroplating only). The plating layers are Copper, Nickel, Nickel Sulphamate, Electroless Nickel, Silver & Gold Plating on the above base metals. We have no experience of Plating on Glass, Ceramic for mass production, only did some engineering projects in laboratory.

In the glass-to-Metal sealing process, some of the metal piece parts needs to be pre-plated before fusion process with glass, the temperature we used is around 950-1050 degress C. Because of the Leakage requirement of hermetic performace (Leak Rate 1 x 10 minus 8 atm cc/sec He) that makes us to use high temperature glass.

First thing comes to mind would be in photovoltaics...I've heard that when the price per watt gets near $1.00, you won't be able to keep up with demand. (re; photocells via ink-jet printer). I'm trying to get off-grid myself and the main snag is the cost of todays panels (around $3.00 per watt).

It looks like your thermal is getting you along with high cost of metal.

I am not keeping close tap on the price side but do know industry which has developed along with silver other metal front conductor and in particularly copper and better back metal along with glass which decreased processing tempearature to same with better filled factor and efficiency at lower burn out rate so over all manufacturing cost is lower.

The company is www.globalappliedmaterials.com they have manufacturing facilities in India

I always have the thinking to involve in the solar power industries but I am not familiar this industry or photovoltaics product. I don't know how to apply my technology and knownledge on this product, would you point it out to me?
