Nitric acid

Dear all

I want to know how to storage nitric acid(50-70%). I mean what shuld be the material of tank storage?

ss316 or ss304 may also do. But for higher percentage say 80% and baove you need a aluminium vessel

Plastics. Try polypropylene tank systems.

Manufacurers ship nitric acid (69.7%) in stainless steel. (304 or 316) I suggest you follow the lead of the manufacturers. You will get a bit of iron, chromium, and nickel in the acid, but very little.

We store ss passivating bath (nitric at 40%) in our plant in a 304 ss tank.

The nitric will passivate the ss surface, (the source of the minute traces of metals mentioned above) then do nothing else to it.
