Water Footprinting

Posted April 10, 2011 8:13 AM

Even though "carbon footprint" is a relatively new term, much of the public understands its meaning. The idea of lowering the amount of energy needed to produce a product makes sense to most people. Energy production, however, also requires water — lots of it. As worldwide water resources dwindle, shouldn't "water footprinting" enter the public vocabulary? Should companies disclose their water footprints?

Huh? So where is all the water going? Are the HHO guys using that much now?

The planet has the same volume of water it has always had. The willingness to pay for or design more efficient and cheaper systems for processing dirty water into clean water is whats the problem.

Once again politics and business are whats the problem not the natural resources available.

For those of us in desert climes, the water isn't always present, dirty or clean. You need to add "transport and store" to your list of things that need to be worked out.

Unlike with energy, water conservation makes sense and works.
