There's an App for That?

Posted June 01, 2011 9:30 AM

At the office, walking to lunch, taking in your favorite ballclub. Wherever you are, the exclamation is now too common, "I didn't know there was an app for that!" The array of apps is so phenomenal now that, indeed, there does seem to be an app for almost everything. Even in design engineering. There's now an iPad app for Siemens PLM Teamcenter. Okay: for work or play, share a note about your favorite, or weirdest, or wackiest app you've come across — as user or spectator.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Mechanical Components, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Mechanical Components today.

My wife is waiting for a Pap App. I'm waiting for a Nap App. My fish could use a Crap App. I also need a Zap App for the neighborhood strays.

This whole smartphone/texting/app thing is just too much for me. If it doesn't improve my life, I don't need it.

Or a dual-purpose clap app:
1) replaces canned laugh-tracks.
2) performs STD diagnostics.

I love my old HP 15C but sometimes I need it and it's at the office. For about $9 I now have it on my iPod. Much cheaper than getting another one (if you can even find a used one on eBay). Of course I have newer graphing calcs of both HP and TI make but for everyday tasks this is just easy to use.

Also I love the free Public Radio Player and educational apps. I also have a World Radio Payer it's pretty sweet to be able to listen to stations from all over the world.

I thought of an app that should be required on every phone.

On that demands the user to pay attention to the real task at hand, like driving their car or walking down the street, instead of playing with their phone.

I ran across this one last weekend "Rapture Detector app" Promises Early Warning

at $15 a month it is comforting to know that any money making scheme I may come up with might have a chance

I love my old palm: the best stupid App. I have on it is Numerus

Description:
Numerus is a basic standard 4 function calculator... that operates in Roman numerals.

How about an App that will whack you when you spend too much time on the computer, and another app that will give your backside a few good whacks if you don't spend some of those time go out and do some exercise !
