Qualified Hackers for NSA Cyber-defense Duties

Posted August 15, 2011 7:03 AM

The U.S. is looking for personnel with computer hacker skills — to the tune of 3,000 hires in two years — in order to shore up the country's cyber defenses, which need help to get up to par. Prospective recruits need security clearances — comprehensive background checks, lie-detector tests, and proven drug-free for one year. Clearance can take six months, within which time candidates may find alternate employment. What do you think the solution is?

LMAO......AAAAHHHHH DUH!!!!!!!! Speed up the security clearance procedure?

Nothing surprises me about how slow the Federal Gov is at doing anything, which is a snail's pace at best.

What took so long to gear-up the NSA and CIA anti-hacking capabilities in the first place? The writing has been on the wall for years! Yet another knee jerk response buy the politicians and heads of the intelligence arms....

"The U.S. is looking for personnel with computer hacker skills ..."

Have they been recruiting at the junior high schools? Oh, wait: "...proven drug-free for one year." Never mind.

What the US government needs is not hackers. It's a completely new operating system...............at least for the sensitive/super secret stuff.

They might. The things we don't know about the computer stuff scares me more than the stuff we know. There's no telling what they have. They could have a database that contains information on each and every one of us......................heck, they already do have that. The only ones that are immune and hidden are the people that are here illegally.

Stop looking for politically-correct saints. First, don't worry about marijuana use, and consider supplying the best pothead hackers with marijuana so they don't have to get it through black market sources. Their need for amphetamines could be met with ADD drugs such as Adderall. Forget the lie-detector tests. Just stick with the background checks to verify if they are Americans and willing to hack for our country. Face the facts. Hacker culture is incompatible with traditional military/gov't culture. If we want the best, we'll have to lose the traditional puritanism & conformity standards. The CIA and federal law enforcement employ some evil, immoral lowlifes as informants and double agents to carry out their missions. Most hackers aren't evil or immoral but do hate conformity. So if the US wants to quickly recruit the best & most informed hackers, they should quit trying to bust hacker collectives like Anonymous, LulzSec, etc. and invite them to join the party. Otherwise, we'll wind up with goody-two-shoe script kiddies that China and other countries can eat for lunch.
