Israel's Arrow 3 Intercepts First Test Target

Posted January 17, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

December saw Israel's Arrow 3 missile hit its first target in a test. The missile, fired from central Israel, destroyed a Sparrow target launched by a fighter jet to mimic the trajectory of an incoming ballistic missile. Designed to intercept Iranian missiles while they are outside the atmosphere, Arrow 3 is the top layer of four in a defensive system the country is developing.

Good for Israel. WE are certainly no longer supporting their defense. I wonder if they aren't considering the possibility of our being an active (future) threat?

I shudder to think so. They don't miss much. And haven't lost often.

Shurley you jest....

"Here is a breakdown of some of US Aid to Israel:

  • Israel is the largest recipient of US Foreign Military Financing.
  • For FY2015, President Barack Obama's funding request for Israel would account for more than 55% of FMF worldwide.
  • Annual FMF grants account for up to 25% of Israel's defense budget.
  • Israel is allowed to use FMF to purchase weapons produced in Israel. No other country receives this benefit.
  • In 2010, the US and Israel agreed to allow Israel tol purchase 19 F-35s at a cost of $2.75 billion. Israel will pay for this entirely using FMF grants supplied by the United States.
  • Under negotiated agreements, Israel may purchase an additional squadron of F-35s, up to 75 aircraft, costing a total of $15.2 billion.
  • As part of the deal, the U.S. has pledged to spend $4 billion purchasing equipment from Israel's defense industries.
  • In the summer of 2012, the Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin finalized a $450 million agreement to modify the baseline F-35 model to accommodate electronic warfare and munitions systems for Israel's future F-35 squadrons.
  • For FY2015, the Administration is requesting $3.1 billion in FMF to Israel and $10 million in Migration and Refugee Assistance. The Missile Defense Agency's FY2015 request for joint U.S.- Israeli programs is $96.8 million. The Administration also is requesting $175.9 million for Iron Dome."

There are some that would say that the FMF is a fair trade for the information that Israel supplies to the USA on people and places in the local area.

Nobody knows the middle east like Israel/Mosad.

Their life depends on it. (Ours may also)

Good point.

But the same reason Israel designed their own fighter planes, tanks, and now their own SAM ABM system still applies. They KNOW we might be their friends today, but they also KNOW we are fickle.

One of the biggest deterrents our SF guys on the ground face in trying to get local intel help is the "Yeah, you SAY you'll stay the course. And YOU (personally) might mean it. Besides, I like and trust YOU (personally). But, OTOH, we ALL read history, and we ALL know how many times the US has sung that song, got us on their team, then walked away and hung us out to dry. And that means the people we fight today, slaughter us tomorrow" argument. And it is true. It is the sad, but repeated history. A slew of Cubans know it, and they didn't forget. A slew of Iranians (our debacle under Jimmuh Cartuh, Peanut Farmuh) found it out that hard way, and died, horribly. Pick a nation, a Theater of Operations, or a locality, and if they don't have first-hand memories, they know the history.

Israel knows this better than any other nation. And has an entire NATION at stake if they trust us too far.

Speaks badly for us. But history doesn't lie. I don't say we're alone in this perfidious mess. But I can't waste too much time on other people's lies, when our own hurt us so badly. Especially today, against the Shia Hordes.

Wait 5 years. Particularly if we in the US get another Administration like the current one, AND the Conservatives keep "crossing the aisle".

I don't jest.

(And, obligatory joke, DON'T CALL ME SHURLEY) (Not Misspelled, anyway).

I spent 41 years before retirement exposed to, and seeing the "Black" side of our relationships with other countries. Israel is of note. I retired almost exactly two years ago. I know the side that all of the press and financial releases don't.

Wait 5 years. Hope I'm wrong. Hope WE change. Israel can't afford to.
