Face To A Screen Name

09/26/2017 5:46 PM

Seeing as Lyn started this by posting his pic in his stone repair thread, I thought it may be fun to see a pic of our members. I will not repost Lyn's pic but will post my own, taken today. Please share, if you care or dare.

Here I am as of 5:10pm est, 9/26/17 :

I found cool glasses like Lyn, but unfortunately, I have no cool hat other than camo baseball caps.

We sure did. I have several pictures from up there too. The highlight of the trip was definitely the lobster. I ate a lot of them.

One thing that has become obvious is that this forum is mostly composed of very distinguished, older gentlemen, with just a smattering of youngsters.

I've had a beard, such as it is, for 50 years.

"Lawdys"...(!) Such a gaggle...!

I have posted a NUMBER of photos (CR4) over-the-years, having me (or a part of me) within:

a photo of me "hard at work" in 1983...

a couple "faded shots" from 1989-1990 HERE...

and a photo of part of my left hand here

and again "hard at work" {under face-shield, and safety goggles} December of last year, HERE.

Hmmmm..... "where/when/how" shall I pose for an "update"....(?!)

I really hate to say this, but all the members that have responded to the OPs intent are OWGs (old white guys).

Why is that? Could it just be demographics?

I would love to see many people from yet other countries!

I must admit that, finally seeing what members actually look like, I actually do feel closer (they're all over 60 ).

Hey! Those from other countries (or even from the US), show us who you are!

The photos that we have gotten so far are from people that live here. This, however, is an international forum. True, it is a predominantly English-speaking one, but all nationalities are welcome.

I think older guys are more likely to find the site enjoyable for reasons other than the instant gratification demanded by those such as Optimization Software.

Solar Eagle's response #3 to Where Do Our Members Live Today? indicates that most members live in either the USA or India.

It would be a considerable amount of research (for admin.) to get a concise demographic analysis of all members since many members do not indicate their location in their profile.

Re: Face To A Screen Name

10/01/2017 1:24 PM

I looked and the only recent one I had was almost 2 years ago,... it was my brothers 60th brother day and we're we're going to a restaurant to eat, it was on a Saturday, and I had to go into work on a install 12 hour day, 45 miles back home, do the three S's and then 85 miles to the restaurant, it was 9:00pm by the time I got there,.. so my brother and sister and their significant others were sitting at the bar and were a little chitfaced... I was already a little diheaveled, but for different reason, so I fit right in. Since I looked a little diheaveled, the picture was bad,... and a little embarrassing, even though, that never stopped me before...

But instead, I took a picture of myself in front of the project (garden shed) I'm current working on to get a fresh up to date picture. Need to finish off the gable end siding...

Now there a distinguished, handsome guy..., oh,oh... I hope my inner voice is working and didn't say that out loud.

Interesting, my pictures not showing... I had to copy/paste because inserting the normal way wasn't working...... I'll try again.

now it came in upside down... I'll erase that too...

hey,... that's not me, that's the Washington Monument when we were in DC, how that get there?...

Begone Washington Monument

I'll try again...

There we go, inserted the normal way,... just had to be more patient and wait...

Now that is a picture I never thought I would see, proof positive POTUS thinks well of all citizens, even the ones that rank more in the denizen class. Lyn is a denizen of deep Arizona.

Re: Face To A Screen Name

LOL, not quite, but both you and BSR above are very close.

Our facility is soon to be a quadruple threat. LoL We have two plants in operation and a large R&D facility and a Freeze dry plant under construction. The cultures plant has over 2 dozen fermenters from 55 liters up to 45,000L, in them we produce bacterial cultures for Probiotics, pharma products, dairy cultures and several food protection strains. We have two pelletizing suites, a canning room, and a packaging line that handles our dairy cultures. Plus two very large ultra cold (-80c) freezers. miles of piping, a CIP system that is loads of fun, and a worrysome ice bank.

Across the drive is the Extracts plant, the milling plant and the other of our packaging suites. There we produce herbal extracts and tinctures for use in food protection, we also produce rennet and a few years back we sold the color business. Making the orange color for cheese, Cheetos and anything orange (except Trumps hair) from annetto seed.

We are about a year away from commissioning a freeze dry plant since we cannot find enough capacity anywhere in America to keep up with the orders. Suffice to say, I am learning Freeze drying from the ground up. Quite literally.

That is the nutshell of what I am charged with keeping running. All in all a very complex and varied machine.

Retirement- Tminus 10 years and counting. LoL

Personally, I think my user avatar provides enough detail on how I look, as well as providing information that a photograph would lack:

  • Wears glasses
  • Largish nose
  • Can be a bit of a birdbrain at times
  • Enjoys coffee

Any other traits you guys think are showing up in that drawing?

I'll get my sketch artist right on it.... when he's done,... we should have a perfect likeness of the perp.

Then we'll get a ABP out on him... and he should be in custody by supper.

I am a guy, and I'm no fan of Palin.

A) She is not a 'birdbrain' she is full-on sat-bhit crazy.

B) She enjoys hunting wildlife from a helicopter. That is completely unfair, the wildlife has no ability to fight back

Ok... I guess initially it wasn't enough... here's your addendum...

  • Wears glasses
  • Largish nose
  • Can be a bit of a birdbrain at times
  • Enjoys coffee
  • male
  • no fan of Palin
  • not birdbrain or sat-bait crazy..
  • does not hunt from helicopter...

That'll help, is there anything else?

I think your posts are insightful and knowledgeable, as are many others here.

Doesn't matter what your looks are, as I've seen very few "pretty" pictures posted here, so far.

what up with brown fuzzy wings? You have a gull-wing car?

Gray winged Herring Gull. Not brown-winged. Tried to obtain a comment from this bird, all he said was "mine", "mine"!

"what up with brown fuzzy wings?"

I admit to some vanity there, I'm still trying to look like a teenager.

(Bald eagles are all brown as chicks, then as they go through adolescence, the headfeathers turn white, and when they reach full adulthood, the body plumage goes from brown to charcoal gray.)

I've been called worse. The most annoying one is duck. Ducks have distinctive flat bills, unlike the hooked beak of an eagle.

(I answer the door on Halloween in costume, so I get a lot of little kids mistaking my mask for a duck mask.)

Thanks Lyn, I look at my dad when he was my age, about the same size. Now he is 73 and a skinny old man with no hair. I figure that will be my fate.

I am just trying to get another member to show his face, can't be worse then some of us have already shown..... We are not a pretty group, think you'll have to agree.....

Don't think I want to start a calendar of the old men of CR4...lol

Time and gravity may have done what they usually do, but those gals still have the inner beauty shat shines through no matter what the outside shows (or conceals behind a strategic prop).

To be honest, the sexiest thing about a woman is her confidence. If she has the courage to try, even knowing she may fail, and has the fortitude to pick herself up after a fail and carry on, THAT is attractive. Little waifs who 'need' a man to direct them are pathetic, the woman who knows she is the equal to any man is the type I'd want at my side on this journey of life. I might help her if she stumbles, she may pick me up if I faceplant into a custard pie, who knows the challenges the future brings.

I'll check that article again after work, if they're still selling the calendars, I might buy a few, those 'byrds' (to use the British vernacular) are helping out a good cause, and they could use all the support they can get.

That last line was intended to be taken as a statement of respect and support for the cause. I Only now realized that it could be interpreted another way.
