You have no idea how badly I am laughing right now !!!!!
Mr Truman Brain, please hand over that bucket at once ! It's not ****** Gibralter and I have need ! You can have it back after. If Del isn't missing a sponge from a Roman stick I need it - there is an explanation out there.

My pleasure. I'm totally **** at putting a point across in writing - ER is the one to watch out for. I sometimes miss apostrophes just to annoy her. Oddly enough this diversion does have merit - looking at the manner in which we all use idiom /metaphor /cultural /style etc. I've seen some 'A' class idiocy in face to face communication in business that really screws up how things work. Playing a bit with written diversions like this enable greater understanding. Not just the technical linguistics but the essence of language and meaning. I once listened to the Chairmen of a major company make a complete *** of himself by misquoting a proverb. Around the boardroom table nobody batted an eyelid, but it sure as heck affected decision making. I've never fathomed why, but it happens. When people use the internet so much more, it's increasingly important that people get to understand what each other are saying and mean. You'd think that in the 21st Century we'd all get past that 'first impressions count' way of thinking and address the substance, but it still goes on. Those days when you could meet the other person, shake hands, discuss business, and share a joke if so inclined seem to sadly disappear.
Wow, somebody compose another rhyme before my brain engages too much !

LOL. Think of how many posts Del has to read just to catch up now ! That'll teach him to post an 'innocent' little question. I've counted about 30 since he was last here.

Now look here, how am I supposed to be able to go off-topic with a thread like this ?
If nothing else, think of the poor Cat trying to catch up on what the heck has happened. Oh, yes. Carry on ! Monday morning and it's gone to **** already.

I am glad that you wrote so beautifully and with full sentences. The internet Language has become so bad that when my nieces and nephews write to me, I have to read several times to reaaly get to the point what they are saying. Young kids have their own way of expressing things. They write so fast on the chat sessions and I have to tell them, stop, and read my message first and then respond.
Internet has killed one to one contact in the offices. People sitting in the next door office would send e-mail rather than talking to each other. I refuse to send an e-mail when asked and respond that I just told you so it is not necessary to send e-mail.
OK, if you do not see each other then there is phone to hear each other and that is alsoa form of contact as well and people are getting away from that too and this e-mail and text messaging are wedges between the people and their relatonships.
I do not know where this discussion has gone from Del the cat to this English and internet etc. I think Del the Ct has closed this topic after he gave the correct answer #34. He very kindly explain to me with additonal pictures. I thank Del theCat for that.
Also, hey guys, leave Mrs Cat alone she has nothing to do with all these. Moreover she was eaten by him any way along with the bones so I guess there is nothing left of her.

Thank you Nadeem for your post. It's good to know that I am not the only one who thinks that perhaps 'more' is actually 'less'. The newspapers in England are often full of stories about how young people lack the skill to communicate ( many young children can not even write their own name) . Mobile phones and technology are great, but can never replace the basic skills of talking with a fellow human beings. As adults we all have a responsibility to see that younger people develop these basic skillls. Many of the terrible stories that are reported by news media seem related to the fact that younger people lack the ability to empathise and communicate with others. Violent video game become their understanding of reality, and mobile phones replace face-to-face discussion. We should all be deeply troubled by this. Our news media make matters worse by using such terms as 'road-rage', 'happy-slapping' etc, and this almost excuses the full horror of what occurs by giving a user-friendly name to such things.
This is not a political forum, but such things affect us all. Technology does have it's part in al this. One of my opinions on the subject is that youngsters under (say) 16 would be better off without mobile phones. It doesn't benefit their communication skills. To go further, being unable to use a conventional library to do learning and research is a folly. Without electric driven devices they are lost. So will we be.
< excuse my rant please - I don't do this often. 'Over dependence' is the general description I allude to.>

I agree on one level, but I also find that having a permanent record in the form of an email is very useful when disputes arise later. That is the reason I email my colleagues (even the ones in this building!). I've been burnt to many times by having agreed to something face to face or over the phone with someone, only to have them renege at a later date. I now make sure (nearly) everything is recorded, and this has helped projects run more smoothly.
I still do my first draft of reports longhand - I think much better with a pen in my hand rather than a keyboard under them. And I'm not nearly so old as Kris!
PS I ignore Kris's punctuation and grammar errors these days, even if they're not deliberate, he'd say they were!
PPS But I'm correcting the quotation document I've just received as I read it...it makes it easier to understand!

One question. What did you do when there were no e-mails?
No computers.
No faxes
Every thing was done long hand and I still find old calculations in the plants and refinaries done by the people before us. Now every thing is done by computers and the young engineers although very good in computers can't calculate any thing with long hand calculations. We had slide rules and log tables. We can use both computers and slide rule and log tables but young kids can not.
That is what people say that old age and treachery shall overcome the youth and what, I forgot. Oh, I just had the attack of senior moment.
Technlogy is good if people do not abuse it. Like Del the Cat's innocent (discovery in his shed) of bow and arrow has evolved in RPGs.

You are right. I usually send a confirmation note as to what we agreed upon. I have sit every week at the end of the week to delete all those junk e-mails collected from the colleagues in the office or the problem which has been resolved and noted so.
Once I was writing like you with pen and paper. Some one came and asked what I was doing and I said, I am writing a memo. I was laughed around for many days that he sits infront of computer and writes first then he types. They had fun but I know I can write better and then change accordingly while I am typing with my index and middle fingers using the thumb occasionally and little finger to enter. The poor ring finger just stays out of the way.
Enjoy your weekend, folks.

In my essay and creative writing I write longhand. For many years I would not convert my work to the computer. I feel that there is a great deal of artistry in the way words look- feel- when written that, obviously, the computer will not capture.

I wish people will learn how to write and compose sentences fully. Searching for word, having second thoughts for the spelling and revising the entire sentence because you got a new idea include all the fun of writing.
I do not think these shorhand internet writing would ever capture it. Some people may argue but that is what I feel and I am quite sure there are many more who feel as you and I feel about the writing.
Some years ago, I read a report with interest about the decline of English language in the United States. One professor was saying that language should be written in common man's manguage (I disagreed) and write what you speak on the road or at home so it will make sense to a common man. The other professor was saying it is disgrace to the language (I agreed) and one should keep the standard and write the language as it is meant to be written. (I agreed again). These computer people are killing the otherwise a beautiful language.
Any one with any other thoughts?
Thanks.

Mm I can agree with the record keeping, but also hasn't in some way these blogs allowed us to communicate without the preliminary judgement of how people look? This one has been very entertaining and allowed our imaginations some freedom to explore without judgement, in a world where most people wouldnt look at you twice on the street, I find it refreshing to have a conversation with total strangers. A meeting of the minds...
I could be a three eyed fish talking for all you know lol
