An Englishman, an Irishman, and a Scot go into the doc's. "What is this" he says, "some sort of joke?" .

Sorry folks, I shall go and give myself a jolly good slapping .

Bit like twice-cooked pork, then, or a biscuit:

The modern-day confusion in the English language around the word "biscuit" is created by its etymology.

The Middle French word bescuit is derived from the Latin words bis (twice) and coquere, coctus (to cook, cooked), and, hence, means "twice-cooked".[1] This is because biscuits were originally cooked in a twofold process: first baked, and then dried out in a slow oven.[2]

This term was then adapted into English in the 14th century during the Middle Ages, in the Middle English word bisquite, to represent a hard, twice-baked product.[3]

Re: The New Bath? Post

Soooo...is this the new BBT (for now?) I am very upset about CR4 and NSSE's decision to close the Bath. No doubt, this thread will be next.

Her position seems to be "Get out. Go email each other. LEAVE." Too bad, but not, I suppose, unexpected.

Sorry, but no...

I understand that you are upset. If you want to talk about home renovations on CR4 - fine. Animals and your latest endeavor are okay too. Optimal bathtub design for your bathroom? Okay.

People of Walmart, user-bashing (even if veiled), YouTube song of the day, Wikipedia links to strange things, etc. - not publicly. (And hey, I enjoy people of Walmart photos - but I view them on their website or in the multitude of email forwards I receive.)

Nobody told you to "get out". But in giving you a free place to chat, CR4 has some expectations in return, and they include at least trying to stay on-topic. There are other places to chat if you prefer non-CR4-related topics - that's the only part that needs to be "out".

That was quick. Quite wise to keep tracking our reactions for a while.

Does that mean Garth can have his "share your projects" blog?

I shall miss the Walmart stuff and quite a few other things people throw in the Bath as I don't have a raft of colleagues that forward, or even know where to find trivia.

"Nobody told you to "get out"..."

I would say, yes, we have been evicted, thus "move on. Closed. Be gone"

" There are other places to chat if you prefer non-CR4-related topics"

I assumed that that was the Bath.

"People of Walmart, user-bashing (even if veiled), YouTube song of the day, Wikipedia links to strange things, etc. - not publicly."

So, if we stop those particular posts, you won't close the Bath thread? Or if we just mention "bath", it's OK?

I have to agree with G. This is personal.

Sorry you can't take the jokes.

If you were "evicted" you would be blocked from visiting the site. That hasn't happened.

It is absolutely not personal. If BBT were used by XYZ125 who kissed my bum until he/she was blue as a smurf the thread would still be closed today. It's the majority of the topics that must go.

Re: The New Bath? Post

& that would not be a problem

if what you are claiming were actually applied across the board...

you are trying to make an example of us

the crew of "outside contractors" post all manner of chatty stuff daily

there is stupid picture of the week, & who cares what this is

You consider CR4 social media, but are forbidding the social part

I'm not interested in contributing to a blog controlled by staff, after the stuff with the mighty penguin hunter. there are far too many vague conditions for me to contribute any content of value...

if you want to actually have rules & apply them fairly, it would be a different story

the capricious nature of the administration of this venue only make it suitable for entertainment & the study of broken group dynamics

I haven't violated any laws

so no I'm not leaving

Re: The New Bath? Post

I think you guys are looking at the Bath closure the wrong way.

When Kris posted that "technical question" he can't have any idea of where it would go or even dreamt it would turn into the oldest and longest and most patronized active thread in CR4 history.

It can/could have, happened to any thread, even one like "pinhead over-unity".

The thing not being grasped by Admin is the clear demand for such a 'silliness outlet' will still exist among the membership demographic, no matter what they do. And the 'content diversity' will be just as diverse.

All this is, is a lesson in "cause and effect" for Admin. The effect of closing the "one contained place" has not been pondered in terms of 'now it moves it all over CR4'.

Their only actual remedy is to ban anyone for going "Off Topic" or having interests outside the Admin approved profile of a 'professional engineer dryly teaching just the facts'.

One other thing I found interesting lately is Google demographic auto profiles CR4 ad cookies as "65 y.o. Male" irrespective of actual age or gender.

So if we are all retired from engineering why on Earth would we come to a site where discussing anything outside the Employers set questions, subjects and social limitations is unwelcome?

How do you think this "one way street" will impact on the people with the time and knowledge to answer the questions?

But bottom line; BBT is just a thread title. There are 1000's more around.
