Good Answer Credits?

03/05/2008 3:23 AM

I recently had two points for a good answer, it then reverted back to one point, I did not think this could happen, not chasing glory just answers?

Regards JD.

Warning ... ratings can go down as well as up!

If you click on the Rate button of any comment (even if it's already got 2 or more Good votes), you can give it a Good or Bad vote - so a Good with 2 can still come down to 1 and lose the magic thumb! Try it on one of mine, if you like (but I'd appreciate it if you put it back up afterwards !)

Re: KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' Serial Number 000003

Dear Sirs,

I refer to our earlier correspondence, in which you referred to the excellent way the KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' would act in a manner similar to a vacuum cleaner, in "collecting" otherwise strayed "good answer" marks.

I remember you stated the unit was patented globally, and the technology was based on the "Black Hole" celestial vacuum cleaner principle, sucking in "good answer" marks from all and sundry, who probably would not even notice losing an occasional mark, or two.

It now appears that somehow, others have realised there is at least one of the KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' units being used on the CR4 Forum.

You did advise that you had prior sales, and the Serial Number of my unit bears that out, so there must be those two earlier units steadily working in the wee hours, absorbing other "good answers" too.

At this point, it appears that both of the earlier units are working at the CR4 Forum, have been overused by the inexperienced, and we have been discovered.

Please advise urgently what we should do.

Yours sincerely

SparkY (Just kidding, Del)

Dear Sparkstation,

Regarding your previous correspondence. You will have no doubt observed the 'Warranty void if broken' seal on your KrisDelTM 'Answermatic'. Information sent by the embedded chip leads us to conclude that you have not only broken said seal, but attempted to reset the device to antipodean time. This is confirmed by the timing or responces to CR4. Please be advised that we accept no responsibility for the effect upon your neighbours drop-bears. The anti-gravitational gyroscope is precision engineered for GMT only. Your Graphics will be held in a secret location, as security against further misuse of the KrisDelTM 'Answermatic'. Your associates in Nigeria have also been reckless with their Answermatic, although that serves them right for the cheque which bounced like a proverbial 'rubber-Gregory'. Our earnest advice is that you immediately don a hard-hat and begin reassembling your Answermatic.

Kindest Regards,

Customer Service.

Re: Good answer credits?

Dear Kris

I received your reply, thank you for your promptness.

I took your advice and opened the safety warning package, which came as part of the package.

There appears to be some confusion, because of the number of warning signs included, which sprang out of that package the moment I opened it, along with the printed Advice Sheet which states that "All Signs Must Be Used While The 'KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' Is In Use".

I have concluded that your unit is a reverse sort of Pandora's Box, and am now wondering if you have misappropriated technology which was patented long ago by Zeus and others of his ilk.

Yesterday I received in the post, a Report re your product, and in view of the advice therein, I have torn off the lower part of that report, because of the description about your product, and the language used was certainly not intended for the fairer sex, nor those of tender years, also unsuitable for the gentle readers of the CR4 Forum..

I had omitted to open that Safety Warning Package earlier, because I had been assured in the Sales Brochure that the 'KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' was completely safe, and I am now deeply concerned that the unit might not be as safe as the original sales information indicated, particularly if such old and unproven technology has been only partially understood by yourselves.

The other package I opened, labelled "For Emergency Use Only" contained the sign at left, and perhaps your packing department made an error including that sign, which would be more appropriately for your own personal use.

I trust that the 'KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' does not contain any standby battery system, which may enable it to continue its nefarious work whilst in transit to your store.

The unopened 'KrisDelTM 'Answermatic' has been sent back for full credit, you can see the factory Warranty Seals have not been interfered with at all, as it is still under the 28 day trial period, and in view of the troubles it has caused, perhaps you would consider a full refund.

Kind Regards....

WARNING!

SparkY & Del - on examination of the #4, #5 & #6 ratings, you are both in serious danger of overstressing the credit flux.

Disconnect all your devices from all power sources immediately. Ensure all condensers greater than 1nF are equipped with bleeders giving discharge to less than 0.01% of working potential within 1us. If not already in place, fit shorting turns around all coils, ensuring full flux linkage. Replace all overcurrent devices with physically similar parts with at least 10 times their present current rating. Disconnect all protective earths. Remove all batteries/disconnect mains power from all smoke alarms.

Reconnect your power sources.

CR4® considers itself to be at risk, and will not tolerate any activities which may cause lasting damage.

I think we will have to award good answer credits top sparky and del and some others for their long and dedicated service to CR4.

I think if I could tap the experience of all the longstanding members in this forum , I could be rich.

But then i think I am already .

I have not discovered another forum like this one where folks give freely and helpfully .

Engineers are a great beunch of people.

But on another note:Hey sparky, dou you think Daniel Vittori could take the Kiwis ahead of the Aussies>?

Dear CR4 Web Master,

I bring to Your attention the actions, on this Forum, (so wisely and skilfully you command!) of the KrisDelTM company, SparkY Graphical Advertising AgencyNOTM and its associate Mr.Musa Piyanun, Bank Officer, Nigeria (person well known in the western hemisphere).

The upper-signed companies devised a scheme of advertising the device manufactured by the former first, based on the black hole principle (also known as the oldest profession) and use, extensively the space of this forum, in a multilaterally and willing audience.

This is why I suggest to instate of the advertising tax, applied retroactively, of 1.5 British Pound (our currency of choice, over here) per line, 2.5 BP per icon and, in the case of films, 2 BP per frame (if interlaced).

Knowing that Your Webest is busy with policing all the forums, I proclaim myself as Tax controller and enforcer.

Your admirer,

Indel (graduate cum laudae of a commie bureaucracy)

Dear KrisDel Co,

Now that the device, The KrisDelTM ' Answermatic' has been developed and marketed, I anxiously await the real money maker to wit; the deterrent software, the protector of our most valued assets. I know that this will be a huge success as most malware prevention programs have been in the past. I know that I would protect my 2 good answer marks with sword and musket if required. If you would be so kind as to inform me of this development I am certainly interested in investing my life savings in your company. I will be glad to send them in the form of an unused postage stamp when and if this development is ready for market. Please advise!!!

Hello charsley99

I am under legal notice to "cease and desist" from any further sales of the above mentioned. (Anyway I've made my $$$millions)

However I can offer you personally and other persevering perspicacious purveyors of this pulchritudinous publication, a free clone copy of the Thinking Cap.

Please refer to http://cr4.globalspec.com/comment/193979/Re-Good-Answer-Credits

where this kindly offer was made to jdretired and others.

I trust you will then feel assisted, in your long and often painful search for self-improvement.

Kind Regards....

Do not worry about lost points because from now on I will always rate your answers with "good" points. Let the detractors beware.

I am the avenging points angel and will defend the downtrodden with a barrage of "good " points until the Great Satan of bad or no points is defeated.

This Righteous and Just quest is a due and proper response to the malicious deduction of points which has caused out beloved JD grief and discontent.

Until barristers, solicitors, lawyers and Knights of the Round Table have had suitable time to rout the nefarious band of bad point contributors from our loving midst, I will be ever vigilant in counteracting the loss of points by adding good points where ever they are lacking.

Welcome to the Round Table, Sir Knight. Our duty is to restore all answers where the nefarious naysayers have nullified the good answers with their nihlistic niggardly negativity.( I love my new thesarus)...

I've been banned from crediting those deserving respondents by exceeding the (arbitrary) limit of awarding good points today. But tomorrow I will once again embark on excising the exuders of this egregious effrontery.

Your divine quest, if you care to defend the downtrodden, is to award your limit of good points where ever you find dastardly deeds dominating the distressed and dispossessed.

Carry on Brave Knight and spread good answers wherever they are needed.

I think it's somewhere around twenty times the webnazi wil let you express your freedom to vote. Then you are summarily shut off from voting. Try it and let me know please.

Oh you can do it...You're young, dynamic and clearly intelligent. Go on...exhaust your supply of "Good" votes and see just how many you can sprinkle throughout this distinguished forum.

I suggest adding a point to each participant who is only one point away from a thumbs up rating. That way you'd be doing something kind and generous which befits your intrinsic nature. Or you can deduct a point from someone and suffer the wrath of Del the Cat, LOL.

Come and join us in awarding good points to those who have none. Your place in heaven, where there are many lovely avatars, will be assured.

Hail Great Overlord. No we are not related by blood but perhaps they may join me in the desire to demolish this stupid popularity contest, this inane "grading" of answers because we believe all answers to be good and noble, offered with sincerity to the best of one's ability.

It is up to the recipient to evaluate answers to his or her query and select the one that seems most informative. Seriously, CR4 risks losing its identity as an open forum and instead, becoming a popularity contest to see who can garner the most "good" (or perhaps "bad") votes.

Quite rightly, IMHO & on reflection. It was making a mockery of the rating scheme.

Sorry, everyone .

"Was that before your morning cuppa then?"

No .. modal sequence is BBC Radio 4 weather then news at 7 - ablutions & dress - cuppa to take up to office for first check of e-mails (attention to urgent matters + junk elimination), then CR4.

Timing & events vary depending on happenings previous night, presence of Small, general feeling of well-being, necessity to travel to far-off romantic places (Sellafield etc.) and so on.

Not likely, no beaches to be had of any sort. But they do have Wat Tyler County Park...will that do for now? (Little is known of Wat Tyler with the exception of his fame as the leader of the English Peasant's Revolt of 1381.)

Well done, oh noble John DG. You have brought joy and hope to those who have been mistreated and misesteemed by miserly misfeasing ministers of malcontent.

We must persevere and rail against these minions of misery until they merge once again into the misty murky depths of morbidity and menace.

Continue to thwart these thrasonical threateners and recive the ardent thankfulness of those whose joy has been thwarted by theives of the good answers theme.

Dear taejonkwando, you are absolutely right. This insane quest for grabbing thumb points, trying to impress your colleagues or to get a smile from somebody's eyes...

I am obsessed. I dreamed that I got 4 thumb point, that I am, now, among the favorites of this forum of wizards of the mind. (I also dreamed that you were holding my hand, while walking on a green pasture in Northern Scotland - why there? no idea!).

Well, this morning, when I wok up and, as usual, I read my CR4 prior of my first coffee, I was the same miserable 3 point guy. Ah, those dreams!

Just so you know (since you're fairly new on this forum), we learned a while back that the pic in taejonkwando's avatar is one of his wife (loooooovely woman, btw). Unless of course you really wanna hold HIS hand in which case you can forget I posted this....

cheers! It's Friday! (when I posted, anyway)

"rolling on the floor" ≡ ROF and "holding my belly and trying to breathe" ≈ LMAO (laughing my arse off) [NOTE: The special symbols list lacks the one for "therefore"... a triangle of 3 dots] THEREFORE you would use ROFLMAO in this instance. Another possibility would be DNPMSL (damn near p1553d my self laughing) Hope this helps, and cheers!

Northern Scotland? Brrrrrrr ! I just looked at the weather there and it's a balmy 3 degrees with gentle 50 kph breezes. Perhaps someplace nearer Hawaii, Monaco, or Capri would find most any avatar happier to be in your dreams.

Might I suggest Del the Cat to be your dream booking agent. Del often dreams of exotic places and astounding adventures. He also paints and builds things as well. Anything Del has to offer would be better than Northern Scotland at this time of the year LOL.

An entitlement for services would certainly be appreciated. However we must always confer the title of "entitlement" on any gratuities because the other term for obtaining clients is "solicitation" may have some rather negative connotations LOL. TK

That was sneaky ! I know you're not keen on the Corgi's Del, but they do a terrific job of cleaning up Pizza crusts......... We've had a little chat, and they promise to behave. No more yapping when you run for the cat-flap, and they also agree to stop using your litter tray. In return, they request you desist from prowling along the back of the sofa - your elevated view point is adding to their short-dog syndrome. We still have that returned Edward to find a home for, and the postage stamps wouldn't fall off it's head either. If the Corgis don't keep to their word, you can call Parcelforce and we'll never see them again. Edward's happy because I told him he was going to an opening.

Dear TK,

I must confess that me, too, I have, once, got dressed with a silk dress. But I was alone, not in a forum.

Anyways, I am glad that I haven't bought two tickets for Edinburgh. Although it would replace a cold shower:

Lovely and thank you dear jdretired. As you can see many object to the theft of good points and even more object to the "points" system altogether.

I maintain answers take time, energy and thoughtfulness. The fact that many of us (if not all) work and what ever leisure time we may enjoy we decide to forgo and use that time to answer the questions of our colleagues. IMHO that in itself rates above and beyond "good answers".

I hope this dialog against the tyranny of this unreasonable grading of answers system will continue long after the powers ban me from this forum for tilting at their infamous windmills.

Wonder if this thread now has a record GA density? (38 comments, 16 posters, 11 Green Thumbs, as I write this).

I never cared one way or another about the ratings till I got a couple of good ratings, and now try to rate according to my understanding since it was nice to see a consensus on a subject in question.

I believe it did help my ego, though I once said my biggest flaw was lack of low self esteem.

The CR-4 Point is that some thoughts are better than others and there is a limited amount of time for us finite beings to use reading, or thinking or doing the chores.

It was a real drag for me to find out I was very very most likely wrong about the possiblity of putting holograms on photons, and I am very sorry I didn't rate the best argument to my failure of vision.

In the future if I see a real good write I will rate out of joy for the thoughts shared.

Dear Transcendian, always do as you have done in the past and that is rate with your heart, knowing full well the person has given their all, their best, with love and respect and come to the aid of the questioner with sincerity and whatever wisdom they have to offer.

Your wisdom is a blessing to us all and you never need to apologise for attempting to put holograms on photons or even restroom walls. It is through such grand experimentation that science moves forward into the unknown.

Rating for the joy of spreading happiness is noble and righteous and you will be blessed.

Kris, I was most impressed by the humanistic taint that you obviously designed into the said 'Answermatic'! However, due to the shear size of the thing, I would need the floor reinforced somewhat! Would you happen to know when the release date for the all new singing and dancing 'Micromatic' is?

As I am limited to only a few GA giveaways as pointed out by right honourable Teaquando (I'm sorry, but I don't have any idea how your name is spelt! Is there an abridged version?) I will award one to both of you and also one to Teaquando for spelling her name totally wrong!

As always Mr. Truman Brain you have touched upon some aspect we hadn't considered when we too desired an answermatic machine. This certainly deserves a GA award (thank you for that abbreviation) and we will award that meritorious notation post haste.

TK is the appelation Del the Cat conferred upon me and of which I've grown extremely fond. I offer this to you as a means of establishing a more intimate level of communication as well.

I see I have hit the limit of rating good points. Suddenly I get a message that states "you or someone at your IP address has exceeded...." and so on. It reads like the typical fascist tirade against the liberty of freedom of expression.

Alas, we have fallen under the suspicious glare of tyranical demons of webmastery and those nefarious creatures have prevented us from awarding a "good point" to your fine response. But let this letter of appreciation suffice for when, at some time in the future, I can slip in unnoticed and rate your response with a well deserved "good" point. TK
