Well, that last term I think is around 1013000, and all the atoms in the Universe are around 10100 or something. So believe it or not, that number dwarfs the numbers of atoms in the universe.

If you'd seen the question before the rest of us, you'd have got a "Good Answer" and a silly Green thumbs up against your post. As you'll see, we've gone a bit OTT on this one - a littler bit of fun, though the calculator that Roger Pink used is (possibly) useful to know of. The BCalc thing I used can be downloaded, and looks/works more like a conventional pocket calculator. Welcome to the madness !

It was fine. It's just that I've gone off the deep end on this and so it makes the original answer seem pedestrian now. But it's right, which is more than I can say for sure for the numbers I'm posting. I think they're right, but some independent confirmation would be nice.

I wish I could say. I set it going when I left last night at 5pm and by the time I arrived this morning it was done. The funny thing is, as you know, it's the squaring that takes a long time, the addition up until now was instantaneous. But this last term, there was about a 3 second hesitation when it was adding. Simply from the sheer size of the number! Awesome.

I'm going to do the 18th term the same way tonight, or at least try. I am dreading the post where someone says they've checked the numbers and they're wrong.

Am I glad I found this site! To think that someone might actually take this to 20, and after posted, someone else (perhaps more than one) will actually CHECK IT??? I Love it!

Solution:

1 X (1+1) = 2 , 2 X (1+2) = 6 , 6 X (1+6) = 42, 42 X (1+42) = 1806, 1806 X (1+1806)=
