Its the penny I placed on the railroad tracks as a youth 40 years or so ago. I see you found it. I spend hours looking for it. Where did you find it? Always wondered what it looked like after the train ran over it.

The secret is to tape the penny down to the track. They squish to about quarter size. They probably get bigger now, with inflation.

Tobin HRG might be on to something. The part in the foreground definitely looks like a propeller or fan blade as seen from the end. This one must have only two blades or we would see a blade sticking out to one side. The only item I can think of that has a two-bladed propeller is a toy airplane, the kind powered by a rubber band.

Re: What's this then (02)

I'd go along with that - but all the red plastic model props I've come across (for rubber-band powered things) have had a cone-type boss, with a facility for fixing a wire through the center & bending at a right angle (dammit this is getting difficult to describe, but it's too late to open up a drawing package to start the "every picture is worth a thousand words" bit).

Props I've used with model engines (boss designed for mounting on engine shaft - therefore flat) have been white nylon-type stuff, or wood.

I go along with the wood model airplane 2 blade prop. I would guess maybe an 8 x 6, taken at an extreme closeup.

It really seems a metallic boat propeller (with two blades) due to the blade geometry and the surface texture. Or maybe a mixer blade in a hardcore brewery?

Possibly an old cam style window latch? Or one of those crazy IKEA screws?

I'm not sold on anything so far, I don't think it has anything to do with milkshakes or their machines, I might be sold on the prop concept but it doesn't look to me like the far side mirrors the visible side...

Any hints on scale or what the 'post' coming off the bottom is? Or any kind of hint at all?

Re: What's this then (02)

As the foreground blade extends beyond the centre boss, a propeller matching blade in the back ground would extend beyond the centre boss? which would be seen to extend at the bottom right and top left? as it does not this makes the blade singular, or a screw petering out on the far side? also it does not have a locking screw or cap. But it does look cast, this making a window latch look more promising, though a window latch I think is a lot flatter? It could still be a milk shake stirrer if its a screw shaped blade?

Regards JD

OK, loads of great idea's here, I've given a good answer to Quobaldt 'cos I think he was the first in the right area, but 3Doug was very nearly spot on, apart from the bit about the rubber band...

I hope some of you will give him some more good answer points?
