Bob, Jack, and Ed decided to go with texting between trucks instead of using the old fashioned CB's.

Well it seemed like a good idea untill they got to the first curve in the road any way!

It takes a lot of treats and a lot of patience, but eventually you can get a group of semis to roll over, play dead, honk on command, and even stand up on their rear wheels! (Well okay, that last trick really takes a lot of patience.)

Caption this? How about explain this?

If the wind blew them over while traqveling down the road, shouldn't they be laying on their left side and on the left of the roadway? This looks as though they were hugging the guard rail when the wind blew them over. Parked and blown over???? How strong a wind to do that?

Sorry - that's what happens when you don't "blow up" a picture - I thought that was the right set of lanes they were beside and the grey thing behind them was the guard rail. It is also what happens when you don't live in the flat lands and are used to guard rails everywhere. I guess when you're in Kansas, guard rails disappear, along with other things, right Dorothy?

"In other news this morning, Police, Safety Officials, scientists and climatologists are all at a loss to explain this mishap. This reporter, however, has recently learned that the long-standing feud between the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf has been dissolved. The Wolf was quoted at a recent press conference as saying that "I'm tired of trying to blow that stupid brick house down. I mean, how many times do I bash my head against a wall? I'm going to miss The Pigs but, dagnabit, I have feelings too". Things quickly got ugly when Mader the Tow Truck shouted from the back of the room "You bastard! It was me that done tipped them tractors! Yer nothin' but a mangy flea-bitten carcass! I's a gonna come up thar and whup yer hide, Mildred!" It seems Mader believes The Wolf is the claiming credit for something he didn't do. More on this developing story after the break."

Simon says...

My take is that they were in the far carriageway, this makes sense in that the would be there, if traveling from right to left of the picture, and they veered off into the ditch in the median. I don't know why, wind, snow that has since melted, who knows.

'Median' is an American term for what I know as 'Central Reservation' ? I can see why the Brit phrase may not be acceptable in America.

Take pity on us lot outside USA and occasionally explain these terms. Does 'hard shoulder' make sense to Americans ?

It's obvious to me that these are trucks and not lorries. A quick observation of the orientation of the single side breakdown lane (aka hard shoulder) shows that this is not in any region of Great Britain. Therefore this drainage ditch is part of the median.

Over here on the left side of the pond I relish discovering new to me slang terms from other cultures. I always thought that was part of the fun of an international forum.

One question for your Kris, do you really have an uncle named Robert?

(1) "Over here on the left side of the pond" is a very 'Axist' statement. Whenever I travel to, or from, the US, or Canada, the USA is NEVER on the left side of the pond. The USA can only ever be considered on the left when you take account of the Latin root - Sinister (Sinistra/Left).
(2). It doesn't matter if you call it a lorry or a truck (Or a Camion or an LKW, or whatever), "that which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet". And don't they look sweet, all tucked in together by the side of the road, gently snoring, the smell of diesel fuel gracefully wafting overhead..............

I've got more uncles than Cartman. I know this because I sneak under the bed.

That's a hooting funny way of defining median, but luckily I'm distracted by facing South and wondering where on earth America is !

While facing south; it's still to the left but after much more traffic, a much bigger pond, more traffic and Bob's your uncle, you're at my humble abode.

Excellent ! That's Cartmanworthy. Had I been thinking quick enough, I have said 'whilst looking out of my tent at the North/South pole...'. Could have used any place on a different latitude, but polar spin is funnier.

"Slippery Excuses" would make for a hilarious thread sometime, not that I'm trying to lure anybody into initiating such a thread. It's the kind of thread that needs to be snuck in on a Friday. I'm not sure 'snuck' is a legit word, but given the recent thread on redundant '-al' being added to words it may not be too out of order.

Alright I'll bite. I cannot find any other Cartman using Google, Yahoo & Bing than Eric Cartman of South Park. Is this the Cartman of this slang?

Red, White and Blue (Black, perhaps - the cab at the rear of the pack blown over onto the median looks very much the worst for wear).

I hope that all the drivers were fortunate survivors of this UNfortunate happening event with all of thier sensibilities and body parts intact!

The 'RCMP Musical Ride' has recentlly suffered some budget restraints.

My fellow Canuck friends might get it.
