Russia Ramps Up Baltic Air Incursions

Posted August 28, 2015 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Last month saw a record number of intercepts by NATO fighters of Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea. Large formations totaling 22 aircraft in the last two weeks of July were escorted by fighters from the UK, Belgium, Italy, and Norway. The transiting aircraft included Su-34 "Fullback" and Su-24 "Fencer" strike aircraft, MiG-31 "Foxhound" interceptors, and various transport types. Last year, NATO made 400 intercepts over all of Europe, but this year has seen a record pace, with 250 thus far.

Russia's just trying to reach out and touch us, saying, "I'm here. I can hurt you if I want to."

Maybe, just maybe it was a case of what NATO saw and what was not seen at the same time.? May have had a new stealth aircraft flying a few thousand feet above to see if it was detected.????

If anyone doesn't think we're in Cold War II now (and for the past few years) has their head buried in the sand....

What does one expect, when incompetent politicians can no longer hide it, try to make a joke of it, such as "the 80's called and want their foreign policy back".

And then gets re-elected.

So really it's not the politicians fault, it's the voters that voted for them, and lack of legal voters that didn't vote.

Cold War II?

You have to be kidding! The Cold War never ended in the first place.

It's just getting more media coverage now.

I am sure he is well aware.

His policy is one of hands-off and let things work out for themselves.

One can't blame his opinion on that matter given all the negative fallout over the decades with US involvement in foreign affairs.

However, the lesson that is being learned is that inaction has its own set of consequences. His vision of the world stepping up in our absence, or diminished presence, from the stage has not quite come to reality.

At this point he is just applying enough effort to keep a lid on things until he is out of office.

In Obama's mind, his plan is working to perfection.

I think he really doesn't see it as much of a problem. I am sure he knows when things are not working like he wants them. It's just that these things are not terribly important.

Killery Klinton's "Great Russian Reset" worked out so freaking well, didn't it? And then we have the spineless Emperor Barry, White Mosque Occupier. Need I say any more?

Their failed foreign relations policies have embolden Putin and his cronies....the Red Chinese too.

That was such a haphazard joke. She spent too much time running personal business out of state department, that she had to come up with some type of ploy statement. At the last minute no doubt.

Early 70's Our Carrier, CVS11 Intrepid, saw routine over flights by Russian Big Bears. Our fighters would escort them, exchanging rude gestures and adult magazine centerfolds held up to cockpit windows. On an underway replenishment in the Baltic, a pallet of frozen chicken slipped out and fell into the water. We watched as our Russian "tail", retrieved it. The signal lamp on the Russian destroyer blinked. Our lamp blinked back, telling them to keep it. We could hear the destroyer crew cheer.

Salty Chicken for a lukewarm cold war.
