Absolutely useless!?

09/21/2007 10:51 AM

During a smoke break some co-workers and I began talking about ciggarettes. We discussed the number of stripes on a Camel Light. Then the toxicity of nicotine (it is more toxic than stricnine or arsenic I've been told). Then it was stated that the ocean liner Queen [sic] burns 1 gallon of deisel for every 6 inches it travels. Next were the crickets. Someone suggested that if you counted the number of chirps over 15 seconds and added the number 40 the result is the current air temperature (I don't know if that is F or C).

So. What is the most useless piece of knowledge that YOU possess?

The muscles that cause the pupils to dilate are associatied with the cillia of the nasal passage. But only when the tendons and ligs of the neck are tightened in the upward movement of the chin. This in turn creates a bit of tickling in the nose and away she goes!

50 sheckles please.

LOL! You are indeed a walking talking mind of useless information! I take my hat off to you, which brings me to the Spanish Police! They where for show a strange square shaped hat, this arose from the days of the cavalry who would attached a small cape to the said hat to protect there necks from the sun!

It isn't what you have that counts, it's whether there's a cure for it.

Back when I sold autoparts, if the phone rang and one of my co-workers said, "I've got it!" I'd say, "Well, I hope it's not contagious!"

Re: Absolutely useless!?

Eureka! I have found it.

What? You ask. The one, the absolute only useless thing. I have thought of and on everything from dust motes to cabbages and kings. Everything suggested in this thread and everything in my head and all have a use. So, time for consensus, get the statistic guys and their pointy little fingers to start diddeling the computers to tell us what the sample size is to be before we can declare there is NO useless thing. Or, is it the UNIVERSE? OH No! you say, the universe is where we live, therefore it is useful to us. No, No, I say, we are a part of the universe, therefore we can not be considered, so what use is the universe and to whom?

Now I can go to sleep again, not to worry, all is useless. ZZZ

Actually James, you've posed a very good question. But now you've got us all in a hell hole of pondering the purpose of the universe! Damn!

But, you are a pondering from inside the universe as a part of the universe. we say the universe is useless then everything inside or included in is useless including the pondering. So, I say pondering don't make it so.

Can anyone here think of anything more usless than the common mosquito?

I mean I have thought about it for years and I have yet to come up with any good purpose for the mosquito. Think about it. They suck blood and transmit diseases. and make more of their blood sucking disease transmitting offspring.

What could possibly be more usless that a mosquito??

Do they serve any purpose to mankind at all?

Ahhhhhhh but you could argue that the diseases they cause help with overall population control?

They certainly help the doctors and drug companies to find profits in making drugs to fight the diseases...

So they can't be useless entirely.... lots of people are kept in work by the little beasts!!

John.

Your responses are true but as for the little beastie, all on its own, with no collateral effects, just considering the mosquito all by itself.

Does this life form provide any benifit to humanity?

Has it in the past?

Will it in the future?

Or is this just a pestilance derived by the devil to be of no ascertainable usfulness.

And giving the devil a few laughs doesn't count as he is probably already long bored of the minor little kickes he could have gotten from the little bugger.

The ability to clean in difficult places could be overcome by attaching a row of bellybuttons to a long pole! They attract fluff at 20 feet!

The nicest thing I know about mosquitoes is that they provide sustenance for dragonflies.

What about being part of the food chain (the mosquito not us) laurva feed tadpoles that make frogs that eat bugs, purple martins eat mosquitos. All a part of the perfect plan that we only try to understand.

Absolutely John. It's the multi-layered menu system that especially excites me. Hash key avoidance techniques exist, but what can surpass the sheer un-adulterated pleasure of endless menus only to be finally told to phone again during office hours. Whatever happened to 'Greensleeves' ? At least I could drum my paws to it.

I am confused. It seems that some of the more useless replies are being marked as 'off topic'. How is that even possible?!?

OFF TOPIC! hahahaha.

In case you are looking for useless knowledge, look at this website. I found a most usless, and disgusting, fact:

Carl Chadwick of Rugby, England, squeezed a zit and projected a detectable amount of yellow pus a distance of seven feet.
