What's all this talk about off topic toast?! I mean what's so bad about toast in the first place, unless it's burned, and even...

What? Oh! That's different.

Never mind.

Have you got the munchies vermin ? 'Fat Freddy' was at home one night, trying to no avail to fry an egg he found left in the fridge. Next morning he realizes someone had left a peach-half on a plate in there. PMSL

"Define an off topic post"

1. This entire thread if "Off Topic" as it has nothing to do with engineering/science.

2. An "Off Topic Post" aka a reply to a thread is Off Topic if it does answer the thread OP or considerations thereof!

As for me Off Topic posts have gotten out of hand and one seems to call for another ad infinitum. The original thread has been hi-jacked and of no further interest. It is then time to cancel my subscription thereto and leave it to those who want to play tit for tat.

What's the difference between an NPN transistor and a PNP transistor? This is an engineering question, but for this thread the question is off-topic and so I'm marking it as such.

I bought one of these at a Hamfest some time ago. It's an Eimac 450TH in new condition, never been used, still in original carton (with horsehair packing). Mfr'd April, 1957.

The cupboard in my house that contains the elektrik metery thing is good, but not as good as that. Mighty impressive e ! Is there gas versions, or is it all-in-one ? Maybe Harry Potter can provide more on this- that cupboard under the stairs must be a lonely but inventive place. No wonder Owls look startled.

O.P: "...Define an off topic post..."

1. - Anything out of the ordinary;

2. - A dissident remark;

3. - The opposite of what you just said;

4. - A whole new argument;

5. - A reminder to another thread;

6. - A good argument, but from someone I generally don't like;

7. - An "on-topic" post in reply to an "off-topic" post;

9. - This very post.

Good God Man.

I almost didn't get out of there alive. There I was ,thinking to myself that I'm wasting a lot of time on the "engineer's" place for news and discussion, I'll just check the in-box once more before shutting down, Hmmm, Garthh, well let's see what this is, ifeel sleepy , being pulled down, oh my gawd it's the event horizon, must claw my way up before tidal forces pull me apart.

Yeah , just what I need another rabbit hole thread to fall down, thanks

Let's tell Sue, maybe it connects to her crawlspace

This will be no help whatsoever, but based on my experience it's just easier and cheaper ti toss the printer when the cartridge is empty. There, totally useless info.

But instead of the driver try a 9-iron.

And, why don't ewe use a Mac?

I don't know my ass from a participle, just liked the way it sounded.

Know why the starship enterprise & a roll of toilet paper are the same?

They both go to uranus to get the Klingons

This as good a place as any

I left WWL trails of breadcrumbs for him to follow, I don't use his name because he's vain & paranoid enough to search himself....

He's welcome to join in our fun, but I don't think he's capable taking himself less than completely seriously.

I've heard variaton on Klingon search technique, must be an edge thing .

WWL is something, I mean he's using the fish scale and bicycle speedometer already, thanks for the tip about lubrication? I'm beginning to think he's a naked robot from the future and he's just acting clueless, till he can extract our nutrients.

I suggest we think of pushing him into a blast furnace and see if his living exo-skin burns off, I'm just saying, worth a try.

Hey howd you do that,

the link never changes color

Do what?

I am experimenting with Tesla turbine link, linker. If link changes color it is obvious that this is Doppler shift i n iron line in visible light speculem . This of course indicates that the tangetal velocity is inversely prportinate to the specific heat content of the expansion medium, in this case being uranium hexaflouride,in cascade series of centrifuges in order to separate fissionable....... I mean , so the wood chip burning, completely civilian agricultural use , no military application, STEAM Locomotive, made out of steel, brass and bronze , entirely contains no export restricted materials or technology, say, you ask a lot of questions about something that you should be thoroughly familiar with, I mean , granted you are wearing a white lab coat two sizes too small, you have a clipboard with no paper on it , you are also wearing your security badge upside down with a picture of someone other than you on it, there's a small round hole surrounded with blood in your lapel and there's a pair of legs visible on the floor behind the Honeywell mainframe, next to that pool of red viscous fluid , well everything seems to be in order, just be careful of that big red button on the wall next to the warning placard that reads :" Under no circumstances press this button, as it will expose the core of the Tesla Turbine , thereby causing the destruction of the movie set secret lair".

What was the question again?

It's funny , I don't remember when or WHY but I had read some of that post previously.

You're right, the question that comes to my mind when I read these similarly themed posts is; why are you writing this ?, there never seems to be any conclusion. I mean I could accept someone being an advocate for something, but, WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH? That's what bugs me . Are they promoting this, in the hopes that warren buffet or bill gates is going to stumble on their rehashing of some hundred year old obscure technology and say, " Well, I was going to throw out these old bundles of billion dollar bills, but this incoherent, muddled mishmash of questionable engineering here has inspired me to build a factory to build the Tesla turbine, hho molecule straightener , flood the grid with free and inexhaustable power, saving mankind"

It just seems to me with my limited understanding of business and technology, that if someone can build something that fills some kind of need , someone will build it and sell it and people will buy it. There also seems to be an undercurrent of the feeling that " the government" or some business conspiracies are suppressing these things that people want . All I've noticed that if people want something, Like , uh,for example, pot , all the organized suppression in the world is not gonna suppress it.

I mean really, what do these f***ing chowderheads want? interogative Full stop.

Hmmm, you tease. this is going to disturb me even more than I'm disturbed now.

It's either something Really, really popular and obvious or something I've never seen.

Don't tell me , I'm going down to the Crawlspace club,put on my spiffygarnet colour smoking jacket, have Jeeves put Beethoven's Eroica on the gramaphone, sit in my favorite wing back chair, have a cup of joe and ponder. I may have to come back up crushed, defeated, broken and beg you to reveal it , but you always were a little cruel, if I had a spine I would flee now, but I can't, I may be the strongest man in Bucks County , able to crush a grape with my bare hands , but in your presence I am weak and powerless , completely at your mercy, to do with me what you will. Please be gentle.

If it doesn't strike you right away, then you probably haven't seen it. Was a strange little cult movie way back. Some of the dialogue amused me and it forms some of the random bits filling my head.

Some of the dialogue amused me and it forms some of the random bits filling my head.

I know the experience, it can be disconcerting when I blurt out , " shouldn't a drank all that cough syrup this morning", it's bad enough that I always sorta remember it and at best it comes out paraphrased, the worst part is that my "humor " appears to people around me as a good explanation for my behavior, enough of that, back to the game, haven't given up yet , cult film, "eating Raul"?, no , "pool Hall Junkies"?, no, " You're Such a Guido"?No, "Titanic?" No!

Well, the suspense is killing me, I have to concede that you have won this round of stump the chump. Since I'm a poor packrat, I will have to construct your prize, with my own two, grubby little paws . How about a squirrel proof Vermin feeder?

Eating Raul! I had forgotten about that one! Classic.

A squibble-proof Vermin feeder sounds like just the ticket. Plus more pics from the peninsula (she said peninsula)

I like to think

I'm pragmatic

in a positive way

I believe in reality

positive incremental change

anyway charlie knows he can abuse me & I won't tweek on him too much

My wife laughs when I talk to my unwife.

the un is pretty sure everything wrong in the world is somehow my fault

& I accept that in a way that yields her no satisfaction

wind out of her sails, cut her off at the knees

well I was trying to apply my massive intellect to solve the conundrum, WITHOUT the aid of a mechanical device,,,now I have a massive headache and what appears to be applesauce dripping out of my ears, hold on , ummm, yes applesauce .well I hope you're happy little missy.

Now the original reason I slipped into the OTP,that is before Sue started torturing me,

cause I was going to post this:

Gilly? what's up with that Garth?

So I'll take Paul Lynn in the center square to block. What? I don't know, I was tired, I was walking all day..........

Leftent Shimoto, have you run the intercepted message through the decryption machine again?

Yes, Commander, five times, it still reads," now you're doing the hokey-pokey",

It must be some kind of deception by the allies.

Similar to the ," now you're doing the French mistake" intercept.

Ok try this; Go to your mail application, and in "Format" you should find a font list or "show fonts" or similar; This is the Mac one. I've selected 'Web', Arial Black to Verdana are web compatible. Trebuchet or Verdana are popular so try first.

Type your message in your email app then copy and paste into your target location, I assume, CR4 mail.

If so, there is or was a thread running on this problem. Didn't read it, don't know if it had a final answer. You could do this in Word but it sticks a lot of junk in with everything that can mess up.

Good luck.

My bed time.

Re: Off Topic Post

Um well if it's a bit 10.3 something you might just want to get mozilla thunderbird (= mail) and firefox (= Safari). Free, get the Mac versions, install is a little different to usual Mac, but painless.

Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client

My old Mac had lots of 'connectivity probs" especially via Sat's , but also a lot of servers clashed with Safari. The new Safari is much improved but I think it needs near 10.5.7 OS to work. Though I have new Safari, I mostly use Firefox.

And use both FF and TB on PC, not the shite Bill serves up. Thunderbird looks and acts a lot like Mail. You can also set up Imac accounts (in Gmail anyway).

However, this is not to 'compete' with Garth's suggestion. If I want to get into what is 'best' I throw the topic into a scrum of nerds - remove any obvious weapons - and check back in a day or two to see who's winning.

I once cared, but these days I just want it to work (and do what it is bloody told to do without trying to out-think or out-guess me) First in that, is going through every "settings" box and removing the ability to decide for you or without telling you. And disabling all automatic updates inc Mozilla's and especially anything Adobe.

Now we have to stop or move this - as it getting to be a topic.

Yes I am familiar w/some of that which you speak

I'm playing around w/an old pentiumIII box converted to speak Unbuntu [the comandline is not so scarry w/cut"n"paste]

My main device is an XP laptop which had a full pro version til it started to crash a few months ago, due to networking conflicts & IE8

once I full restored I went back to using FF & OO

I used thunderbird a few years ago, but liked the interface of my connection providers mail system [comcast broadband] better than outlook or TB.

I recently [1yr] migrated to Gmail & don't feel the need for an onboard mail client

I like clouds...

Re: Off Topic Post, My nemesis the pump and its special friend the hole

12/11/2009 7:58 PM

This is the pump after I took it apart 6 months ago, someone had stored it for twenty years , with water in it , complete mass of rust, so cleaned it out , replaced nickel and dime me to death pieces on it , sleeved the existing abandoned well, old casing had split,got it working to the irrigation soaker hoses, works adequately for awhile then it f***s with by developing a new problem, latest think I have a below ground vacuum leak, tomorrow will pull the sleeve out.

Good thing, water table about 8' here., By the time i got to this point I think i could have bought two pumps, like the time I fixed the dishwasher, could have bought two new, cheap dishwashers. It deteriorates into a battle of wills between man and machines, I should stick to battling things that I am at least slightly smarter than, like pieces wood, I've got the advantage on them at least, well most of the time.

It's kinda like having a clapped out motorcycle or beater car that constantly has sumpin' new f***ed up on it.

but it gives me something to bitch about and since I am under-employed, keeps me from hanging out on the street corner with the other juvenile delinquents , sorta like midnight basketball program. Blah, blah ,

Talk to you later

Packy

The zen of junk

I once had a 10 hp nemesis of a liquid shortening pump

No matter what work I would do 2 gallons of coagulating soy lard would ouze out..

finally got the seal to stop leaking & the housing would start

I seemed to be the only one who could deal with it. every couple of months, covered in slime

Breaker 19

Hey Homeskillet, gotcher ears on

Just subscribed to your pure prairie league political discussion thingie, read a ways into it , I'm impressed with the tone and the moderator.

Maybe it will succeed because it's flatly stated it's starting out as a political discussion and you're gently steering the participants to elaborate on their positions. Will continue to read it further.

Good job.

I can't count the times I have been reading something and a Troll chimes in with,something like, "just wait Hillary and Obama hussein are going to take away your God given right to put airplane engines in tractors, no more truck pulling contests, because they are fascist , socialists, Satan worshippers taking orders from al gore and the new world order, UN guberment, and they have a communist flag tacked up on the wall of their garage". Okay, Clem, good , well reasoned point.

Keep up the good work

10-04

over and out

Catch you on the flip-flop

Due to overwhelming demand, one person, more pictures.#1 of many

Economic stimulus money at work. Ongoing construction of the Latest CR4wlspace project . When finished this will be the East edge Combination Visitor/Tourist information center & Soylent Green Intake processing facility . Slated to be up and running in the Fall 2010. Visitors are asked not to carry metallic objects on their person, as it tends to damage the machinery.

I forgot to mention that the project in the preceeding post is being constructed directly adjacent to the restored home of packrat 561

I must say, the Mrs. isn't as thrilled with the construction as I am.

#4 House of Packrat

#5, ditto, you can tell it's Christmas time by the wreath on the gate and all the snow

#6 The front porch Buddha and a couple of holiday friends

WWL is not going to investigate a thread that is not directly about him or started by him. So, I deduce, therefore, op cit, ibid, in lieu, and e pluribus pinhead, that one must lure GB to WWL.

That will be an interesting bit of blither, which I'm sure will likely end up in the first bi-national realization of cold fusion.

Well duh,

I love the part where wwl chides me for suggesting that he work on his prototype on the ground, but has done nothing but complain ever since about what an inconvience it is to work on the roof

I like the old SNL skit with Al Franken doing the news

He would turn to the camera & say

I'll bet your wondering how this is gonna effect me Al Franken?

E = MC2, right?

So if you just used one C and √M, then you can go as fast as you like.
