Well said...

To do fireworks on a that scale! Footsteps striding across a whole city...mind you they did invent the things!

And that thing where the olymoc rings lifted up off the ground drew a gasp from the audience.

Nice one.

That mix of ancient and ultra tech worked in such a way that both complimented each other.

Dream fairies floating over the rings as they were rising............nice nice. The footsteps blew me away....what a great concept!

Yep....they invented gunpowder....and paper....and the compass......and printing type..........and and and. Mind you, we perfected the use of gunpowder by blowing each other up. They can't be that smart.

Thing is that 400million of 'em speak English.....that's more than the pop. of the US.

You are a little minx Del! Any opportunity to plug that crossbow of yours and it's as good as nailed! I bet you can't plug the solar water heater DIY blog into the '2 vrs 4 flute, spiral vrs straight flute' thread! Go on, it's Friday and we need a bit of a gee up! Could be a cryptic chase through the CR4 archives!

I did a blog on my solar hot water panels, but there have been a few similar threads.

I did pose a challenge Q.... One of my panels has 9 zig zags of tube, the other has 13 () I asked ...does it matter in what order they are connected?)

No... just single panes salvaged from an old greenhouse. It would be interesting to build a lightweight version from plywood and polycarbonate sheeting...but having done it once the enthusiasm is waning.
I'm toying with the idea of a 'solar prognosticator' which detects the early sun and inhibits the gas central heating from topping up the hot water...
What you really need is atank with two heating coils, one near the top for quick shots of hot water from the central heating boiler and one at the bottom for the solar panels to give pre heat/bulk heat in sunny weather.

Problem is in UK it's hard to prognistacte anything!

I'm coming to England today for a two week rest from the sun!

Here, it's just hot, hot, hot! Looking forward to feeling the rain on my face again!

Could you use a normal PIR as a trigger?

Could you use a normal PIR as a trigger?.

The squirrels thet galumph across the roof would probably set it off.

I feel I'm probably not getting maximum benefit from my panels...but on the other hand they were cheap.

It's like a lot of this stuff, it would be soooo much easier if you were building from scratch.

Those ground source heat pumps sound good...but work best with underfloor heating...but I don't want to rip up my hardwood floors .

Oh to be 30yrs old again, with a piece of land and a pot of cash...sigh.

Adustable mercury switch... errr how? For what? Is that water panels or photovoltaic?
You have aroused my curiosity now you feindish Duck.

Maybe there's a whole new solar panel control thread brewing here?

I used an ordinary thermostatic mercury switch to activate the pump that supplies the solar water panels. It worked quite well but could not be mounted outdoors because of corrosion. I stuck it in an east facing window where the rising sun would trigger it.

I then built an adjustable mercury switch out of stainless and mounted it outside.

I've lived 'off the grid' for twenty years ....not so much out of choice but because the area I live in has no electrical service.

I also use photovoltaics....batteries are a pain in the ass.

Hey..........nicely done! I had no idea such a device was so elegantly simple. I'm impressed.

My foray into crossbows consisted of building one out of a large truck spring using a hand winch and drill irons as bolts.

Suggest those who haven't seen above link get an eyefull. Very interesting device.

Ducky,

Actually, as far as I know, that's White Mountain. I don't know the names of all the peaks in the Kettle Range, however.

Yes it is beautiful here and the climate suits me. I like 4 seasons but I do better in the cold than the heat. That winter of 95/6 was indeed a snowy one. I had 6 feet of it in my yard. Several barns and nearly all the quanset style buildings colapsed. When the spring rains came we had terrible flooding that washed out the Sherman Pass Hwy.

Hello my friends,

Just arriving from my August rest I take this picture of the small and quiet beach in the north of Spain where I use to go since 7 years ago.

24 days without problems, just resting, looking the beautiful surroundings and my traditional Cholesterol-sugar sweetened august diet.

Kind regards

are you taken by film camera? I guess you use scanner to convert it into electronic version.

there is a red area in the pic, is your computer problem or scanner problem? or you camera?

the first one is very good. come on.

Hello cnpower, all were taken with my cell phone, then transferred to my PC and when I saw them I found a bit dark and just applied the self-correction option of the Picture Manager.

I know the first one is nicer, it's been taken while climbing to the left side beach cliff.

Other two were included just to show the "crowded" beach.

Kind regards

As a regular reader, thought it may be usful to offer some examples from the southern hemisphere.

I use this site for weather forecast information and it also includes weekly contributions of individuals' views of New Zealand locations. Worth a look!

Needless to guess. It is lotus.

the plant grows in a lake in the summer. under the mud is lotus root, very delicious.

the flower, we call it " He " and the root, we call it " ou ".(Chinese pronunciation)

Once you go to countryside, you may see this plants. we love this plant. we also enjoy picking up seeds, catching fish in the summer hot days. on other side, from now on, you will feel, how the peasants work hard.

in this thread, I posted a pic of a large leaves of this plant, which is originally from amazon, but now c an plan and grow in our south region.

In your europe, there is a water lily which is always painted by impressionistic painters ,like Monet etc. and which is also planted in our china.

what you mentioned to search in google for words of " hehuating" is just coming from a park, not from countryside, they can ony use for view and apprecialte, not for eat, haha, this is very important distinct.

In many parks of our cities, there are such pools to plant a few lotus, such as famous Xihu (west lake) in Hangzhou, sou xi hu ( thin west lake ) in Yanzhou, juangsu province, Dong hu ( east lake) in wuhan, hubei province, and Yiheyuan ( summer palace) in Beijing of cuse. etc. countless.

if you would feel the beauty of the great nature, you hve to go to country. which wild, spread, quiet, you cannt feel forever in the city.

Lotus floating on ponds makes a very nice and tranquil scene. I l looked on google, and there are lots of ways to eat them;

Best not eat too many of the wrong type - I read it has an effect like opiates.

The chinese pronunciation ' Hehuating" menas a gloriette standing in lotus pond.

the j is my encode marking. means scene.

you can use " hehua" to search this plant in google. yahoo etc.

The pieces of the lotus in the above bowl is not of good quality. his bowl is not bad, Our 's is very good to eat,

roughly, the lotus divided into two classes, red, and white. lotus powder is for baby and for soup. the seed is also goood thing. our chinese like drink lotus seed soup.

haha, I dont know how to speak in english. in one word, lotus whole all is good.

autumn is a havest season, next, i shall place more fuits and "juhua" (chrysanthemum)

South of the ohio river we have a similar Moon pie tradition:

Certainly a tradition with far less seniority than the one that you describe...

It obviously made of chocolate, I eat it as breakfast, very sweat, only me in our family can endure such too sugar . hehe. its one of biscuit kinds. export to your USA very much every year.

your people must be influenced by oversea chinese, especially chinese town everywhere, so that businessmen use it as their wonderful advertise to promote their products.

At the mid-autumn, almost every chinese, especially oversea chinese have this festival to remember relative in the remote, their hometown and celebrate harvest in the year.

The moon is round very much in the night. appreciate it and enjoy eating , very pleasant. its wonderful time.

BTW, the biscuit can be sold around the year, but if our moon-cake would not have sold up in shop after midautumn day. none would buy it again. unless next year, hehe.

It is a chocolate coated biscuit (Cookie) sandwich filled with marshmallow (whipped sugar,

It is VERY VERY VERY SWEET. And we usually wash it down with an RC Cola, SOda pop, except I'm a pepsi guy.

I don't eat the moon pies myself, but the difference between ours and yours was quite instructive...
