Well, someone needs to write it up for a Wikipedia article. Either that, or the Guinness Book of Records....

I'd like to think that views and comments aren't the only criteria. As we've recently witnessed, there are threads with lots of views and comments that should be forever swept under the rug. They happen very rarely anymore, but they still happen.

I doubt I'm the only one that wouldn't care to see them on the monthly most popular.

Numbers alone aren't necessarily the best criteria - but other methods of measurement tend to be based on personal opinion.

And that's why I asked what your favorites might be. Any suggestions?

The virus discussion has been a real eye opener, and a good thread. Drive by friskings is good too. It's nice to know that 'most' of the time, we can argue in a constructive way, and not cross the line.

Sandy Creek got a little ugly, but again, it was a great thread. Another real eye opener for me personally. I did more reading about it than I posted in the thread............................unfortunately the politics involved are undeniable. I went all the way to researching the judges that were assigned to the court of appeals case. Interesting stuff.

One of those was closed some time ago. This thread was about threads or blog entries started in January 2012. Maybe we'll do the most posts/favorite of all time, some time.

A Quote from Admin "The CR4 team has decided that it's time to close the Bath Breaking Technique thread. Why?"

I hope that's not true. Things get said in arguments all the time................out of anger. That Blair mess should have been shut down when the OP decided to go nuclear. The BBT isn't hurting anybody. Besides, all it would accomplish would be to start a cat and mouse game. There are thousands of dormant threads to take up residence on.

"Numbers alone aren't necessarily the best criteria ..."

Agreed. The BBT would be at the top of the list in perpetuity, followed closely by the What is an OT Post thread (I would think).

[edit] I see BBT and OTP are both ended...

I am interested in statistics. What does the number of views really tell you/us? A clever thread title can bring in many viewers not likely to comment because the title simply led them into a discussion they have no real interest in. Likewise, the words 'Chevy Cavalier' in the title can be the best way to limit views by many CR4 veterans.

Analyzing the comments per view (or similar) could be a better indicator than each one alone. Even then, it's impossible to tell without analyzing the comments. If 50 of the replies are smiley faces and unrelated chatter does that mean users really found the topic interesting? Probably not - it just might have been a convenient place to meet up and talk.

Wow - total deletion of the entire bath thread (as far as I can see). Now that's a first. No idea what message that is supposed to carry, but I certainly won't risk offering my opinion.

It has been archived offline. No "message" other than the reasons given previously. Nobody is "out to get" anyone else.

We remove threads all the time. In most cases, they are spam, and we do so before much of the CR4 population knows about it.

4 years is a little way along the line to decide such. 'Archived' to what possible purpose ?

Yes, you remove threads all the time but there is no comparison with those and the action you have taken. I've nothing further to say on the subject openly, except that "archived offline" = "deleted" in plainspeak. People aware of the threads existence can judge you for themselves.
