This week's CR4 Challenge Question:
Juanas and Thoman are natives on a forgotten island somewhere in the ocean untouched by modern society. One day while out for a walk around the perimeter of the island Thoman deduces their island must be at the center of the world. As they walk together around the island he shows Juanas that the waves are always crashing into shore from every side. Juanas, not being easily convinced, said lets climb the island mountain and look at the waves. What did they see when they got to the top of the mountain.
(Update: March 18, 1:00 PM EST) And the Answer is...
When they got to the top of the mountain, they saw the waves were in fact all crashing in on the island, but they also saw waves in the distance all heading in the same direction no matter what side of the island they looked at. When the waves got close to the island they would bend around as they came in, so that they all crashed in. When they climbed back down the mountain they went into the water. From feeling the currents, they further realized that the sand bar of their island was causing the waves to slow down. The closer the wave was to the island the more it got slowed, this was causing the waves to bend towards the island.
