Warmest December in Chicago?

Colder much earlier, and longer than in quite a few years - here in eastern Washington state.

Maybe it was a weather forecaster. They're wrong half the time anyway.

Warmer, much later and longer than in most earlier years. Earlier grape harvest than in most earlier years. The recent cold dip is not very cold, nor deeper than cold dips of yesteryear. Etc. I've lived in the region for >60 years, and have at least a bit of a handle on it.

Well, maybe my getting older has made me less tolerant of this kind of weather. Most of the time I've spent in this region has been in TC. Moses Lake does seem to be a bit harsher.

I'm ready for spring summer.

Can't blame ya for that. My own living room heaters seem to be on the fritz just now, but as an Alaska alumnus, I don't mind. Robin's studio is nice and toasty, though.

Below zero last night!

Pretty mild in the mid-Atlantic. Until last night when we finally had a temperature below freezing (close to the Bay). Inland areas have gone below freezing well before now, but where I am, the Bay's influence have kept it above freezing until now.

Went riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway Dec 13. Light jacket and single layer gloves. Crazy mild. Bikes are usually put away by early November.

Well, I live in the desert - so it is raining!

I was at Myrtle beach SC on Dec. 30&31. On the beach with board shorts and no shirt or shoes. Sun was shining and all were warm. Freaky.

It was 70 degrees in upstate NY on Christmas Eve. Yesterday it was -1 as I drove to work. I guess we're back to more seasonable weather!

It's been raining steadily since Monday here 51°F and is supposed to continue through Sat. (El Nino)

Over the last 24 hours we've had .3" of rain and expect.

100 miles north of here, it's been snowing all week.

I'll take the rain.

Slightly warmer here - 38 deg C today but cooler than Hotazel (Hot as Hel) at 39 deg C

Didn't you see the picture in the original post? An ice scrapper would definitely be of more use than a mere ice scraper.

NW Pa and W NY have been similar to your weather. First time I can recall, since moving here in 1980, that we didn't get weeks of lake effect snow in December. I believe we had two days. December usually has a several week period where we don't see the sun - just grey clouds. and if it isn't snowing, it is getting ready to. That didn't happen this year. So far January has been different too. It has been cold, but the lake effects aren't happening. I left one solar LED light outside and it charges up enough to stay lit all night, all though it is rather dim by morning, even with the extended darkness this time of the year. Remarkable for this part of the world, where the lakes usually keep us under cloudy skies until they freeze over - usually it is about February until we start to see several days a week with sun.

The UK (maybe the USA too?) has a problem of the later starting winter and its Squirrels, they are all in Pre-winter "get fat and sleep" and are getting HUGE!!! Winter is starting so late...

The bears are "up" too late as well. Bad for them in NW Pa, as the hunting season for them is late November, and they weren't hibernating yet at that time. This is the latest in the year that I've had to bring my bird feeders in at night, to avoid a "bear raid".

It's warm right now.

The last two years it was very cold. the years before that it was warm. Spring, Summer and Fall follow similarly unpredictable patterns. We call it 'Chicago weather'. In other areas it's simply known as 'weather' and whether or not you like it is up to you.

I think it's safe to day that this is not going to be a drought year for California. Our Snow level in the Sierras is at 108% already for this time of year. For the next two weeks we're predicting 15 inches of rain in the Central Valley, which is way more than normal and Clovis, CA is already preparing for flooding. At my sister's home, yesterday, it was snowing. She showed pictures of it on Facebook and already had five inches on her roof and the snow was still coming down. She lives in Tehachapi.

According to the local weather forecast, snow is expected in the UK next week. Deep joy. Not!

¹/₂in (15mm) is usually enough to bring road traffic chaos with inexperienced road users causing misery for all the rest, 1in (25mm) will see the beginning of cancelled train services (unless it's the "right kind of snow" - local in-joke) and 2in (50mm) will cause trouble at most airports here. And when it all thaws it is doing so on ground saturated with rainwater over the past few weeks.

It's time to move to Switzerland, perhaps.

With proper "Winter Tyres", you can drive far easier than with "Summer Tyres". Are they available in the UK generally?

2 degrees F this morning on my way into work. today the range will be -5 degrees to 11 degrees F, Current Temperature is 10 Degrees F, Wind Chill feels like -7 Degrees. Mostly Sunny Winds out of the WNW @ 17 MPH, Humidity @ 57%, Precipitation @0%

Started out yesterday Morning @ -4 degrees F so,... were having a heat wave....

We're being hit a second day by what you just weathered, and our lake effects are to run for the next 4 days. Now that is winter around here, not sunny days with dandelions blooming.

Must be deja vu. That car picture also happened just south of Buffalo yesterday.
