Puzze Pic: What Is This Thing?

03/20/2009 9:24 AM

After much demand, OK, I had one e mail, here is another pic of a thing, the use for which I'm not saying. It's a small section of the item, if no-one has any good ideas after a few days, I'll post an image showing more of the...device.

I think this is a really cool one! Knowing the level of geekiness on this site, I would expect the correct answer in about, oh; say 35 minutes?

Business end of an inoculating machine? Can't really tell whether they're hollow needles, but there does seem to be a tube going to the part that holds them.

A pneumatically powered nose - I believe KD™ have at least three in their catalogue. Pick whichever you like.

Tell me seriously - with your front paw on your heart. Do you still think it is too far ?

When the marines are marined marooned in some deserted island with that thingy with them, whose meat what they are going to marinade relish ?

Even assume it is not deserted, some animals like komodo dragons are around, and they want to marinade them, and me being in control, what is going to be the result ? Is it not have your meat and it it too ?

can nigh ball ? Of course yes.

I have heard a saying that crows don't eat crows meat but that doesn't mean squirrels marines though they go up on crows nest but that doesn't make them crows .

And you always can refer to the saying other man's meat is always neat or something like that. Any marines around to corroborate to the fact ?

"heart" ?

The Kimono dragon just wants to give you Sam 'n' Ella. Probably stops you running/helps him digest you, but more likely is poor dental hygeine. The Pandas have it sussed, like in that book - Eats, Shioots and Leaves.

Kimono dragon

That gives a new line of thought but it has to be confirmed by Epke.

The Kimono dragon must be a she.

Now dragons are he or she ?

As per the Dragonheart it is a he. But in Eragon it made sound like a she. Just like promoters of KD enterprise you never know they are He and She or She and She or She and He (how can I pull my hairs in opposite of smiley).

Wifes and daughters: a la Joe Valentine so you don't know these are Kimono dragons or Komodo dragons in sheep's fur .

And being heartless gives a whiff of pure purple It can not be metallic. Even more since the pawing of the heart was smiled off.

It's clear that the spring and tines are to aid in the retraction of the points, with the tines providing protection from the points when at rest. I've seen this before, but just can't place it.

What looks to be insulated needles with attached wire makes me think it's part of an electrical current testing gizmo. The needles puncture the insulation and make contact with the wire inside.

Ahoy Mobi...good to hear from ye

At present I have the dubious distinction of discovering what a broken back feels like.

Doing maple syrup... stringing many miles of tubing between endless forest of trees while trudging in deep wet snow. Up at 3am making sure no tubes have become disconnected and then off to work....till the end of March and then pull it all down again till next year.

Were you anywhere near the fires?

Pardon my tardiness Ducky.........been a mite busy sorting some crap out for work, for our audit next month. In Australia all teaching organizations are audited every 5 years...........just to see if the are up to standard............this is the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) standard............all state and private providers are subject to this grilling.

Onto more mundane things............hope you are traveling a bit better now Ducky............here, is this maple syrup your business.......or............hobby. If it is the latter, may I suggest that you go and see a shrink (chortle, chortle).

Thankfully, I was nowhere near the fires........the worst were in Victoria (they also had a few in New South Wales, but not as bad) and I live in South Australia.............we also had temperatures around 460C..............bit bloody warm............but we were fortunate enough not to have any major fires this year........we haven't for a couple of years now, however, its only a matter time............the longer it goes the greater the fuel load........even though we have had drought conditions for 6+ years.............vegetation still grows in winter and in the days that we do get rain.

There is one thing that really gets up my nose with these fires............its people that do not have a decent sized clearing around their houses and adequate fire fighting protection (in quite a few cases this was immaterial because of the firestorms)...........it maybe nice to "live next to nature," so to speak..............but the consequences can be deadly. as clearly shown in many bushfire situations. With the recent fires in Victoria it was brought out that local council laws forbid the clearing of the bush and trees around houses, as it detracts from the aesthetic beauty of the place.............methinks that will change.........if it already hasn't.

The last figure that I heard concerning the fatalities in the Victorian bushfires was 210. Certainly a shocking loss of life.........I mean, property and stock losses were huge..................but, they can be replaced over time.

I heard a story about buyers from an abattoirs, offering to buy stock that had had their feet and legs burnt..............wait for it...........$0.50/kilo. That was from a work colleague whose brother lived in one of the areas.....he was one of the lucky ones, he only lost a couple of sheds and quite a bit of machinery and other gear.

Damn shame those fires. My place is surrounded by forest and we're always on alert come summertime...and there isn't a council sitting that will tell us what to do. Most everybody here is a volunteer firefighter.

Shrink??? What started out as a fun hobby turned into a pretty good maple syrup business over the years. After a long winter it's one of the things we really look forward to doing. Besides, I've made some great beer out of the sap, which, incidentally is also great to drink on its own! (actually, I can't make beer worth a damn so I let my neighbour make it for me).

Off to the sap mine.............

What started out as a fun hobby........

Here Ducky.............I think that you and I have different views of fun..........however the beer sounds "interesting" to say the least..............I reckon you've got it made (the beer that is).........having you neighbor make it.............hell, isn't that wot neighbors is for?????

Nice to here its a good business...........stirling effort there Ducky.

End of wintertime fun! The horses are used to haul mature timber out during the winter. Great animals!...they'll deliver a log or sled to a drop-off point without needing a driver.

We're in a rocky, semi mountainous sort of ground which is hard on the hooves of oxen. The horses get a type of cleated shoe fitted that allows added traction...and though I've never seen oxen used I can well imagine the power.

It's amazing to watch the relationship between a man and his team. Though a lot of guys use skidders in their lumber operations I've always preferred horses.

Cold is good for ya! Lots of oxygen and stuff...........

I've only been around these huge work horses,,,,,,,,,,good natured beasts and very protective. Since two of them discovered the carrots in my garden we're blessed with a weekly summer visit when they decide to go on a walkabout. Polite too! They'll stick their heads through the kitchen door and either my wife or myself have to go and pull a carrot out for them.

Reminds me of a mole trap my Dad had in his garage, though this one would be way overengineered. The thing had a spring, and points that went into the ground. You placed it over thier underground " runway" and when they went past.....shishkebob!! I always wondered what those funny little things were that Mom cooked up from time to time.

It's a little known fact, but squirrels are cold blooded.....quite ruthless in their gathering of nuts. Tucked away, shared, distributed, processed into nutritional little wafers.

Wait a minute, I think I have it.......it's the working portion of one of those elctric hot dog cookers from the 70s. You stick a end of the dog on each prong, plug it in and watch your hot dogs sizzle and pop......maybe it's for those little smoky sausages they sell.

The pattern is not changeable. No need! As to dimensions, quite small, about the size of a pair of medium pliers. The part you can't see consists of a pair of handles.

Any chance these are used for felting? I can't see any barbs on the needles.

Deciphering from the visual clues:

Item is used to grip something, most likely something hot.

Item is adjustable. Notice the lockdown/set screw on the sliding grip.

Item is to be held in left hand, lockdown screw is tightened with right hand.

Object to be held by item is probably not metallic, unless it is a soft metal such as lead. The tines must be able to help the item grip the object.

Adjustment range rules out objects made of cloth.

Item is used in area of the arts, but not in art, as per statements by PlbMak.

Best guesses would be in glassblowing, jewelry, or theater.

I believe it is made for removing hot carbon rods from carbon arc spotlights.
