First it was Nicholas Carr, author of "The Shallows" talking about how our Internet surfing habits are inhibiting our abilities to engage with complex subjects. Then, Stephen Pinker weighed in saying it's not all that bad. Now, a couple of experts claim they can use Star Trek to teach students how to think more critically (which I would agree with!). Are smart phones and e-readers and all this real-time social connection to each other elevating us or dragging us down? Does every technological tool have this double-edged effect?
