Why don't you just push the envelope a bit?

Tried to, but the coke bottle has limited how far we can push the envelope in.

SPLARF!

Geaux Saints!

Are you going to Mardi Gras? I have never been, always wanted to go, and THIS year should be monumental!

Had some friends who would go to NO every couple of years for MG, but would go to Louisiana every year just to eat for a week! They said the food is like nowhere else...<drool>

Re: LIGHTNING BOY Post

Some friends and my son are flying up next week; they'll spend Mardi Gras in the frozen tundra, which to them is very exotic.

I enjoyed Carnival season, but the 2 weeks of traffic jams and crowds (huge parades on major thoroughfares every night leading up to Fat Tuesday) wore thin on me after a while. I even rode in a parade as a member of a krewe for four or five years, which was great.

I can't tell you how much I miss NO, how my heart breaks when I go back and see what's happened to it. Slowly but surely some areas are returning but as a whole, it will probably never be like it was pre-K.

It's a total mystery to me how I never doubled my weight or cholesterol in all my years of living there. Hands down, the best food anywhere. People live to eat and love to eat in NO. Now I'm hungry. Damn tapeworm.

Yar, you have to know the back roads to get out quickly. Or have a friend who lives on the parade route so you have a place to hang out while the traffic dies down.

But living on Metairie Road was sure handy for the St. Patrick's Day Parade! Flying cabbages for everybody.

answer: No , you big girls blouse, I can assure you that everything is in good working order.

I'm rather curious as to just how many more "theatrical extrapolations" like 12" hole are in the "official proposal" - How many "Oh? it's corrugated?" are missing. Them GA's are tricky little suckers.

yeah, when that dick, I think it was stuey, said somehing to the effect , we'll tell them what they want and they better like it, then compares them to children, what an ass hole.

maybe we should soften them up with an airstrike first to make them more receptive to our help?

and let me use my 12" hand powered "chassis" punch on this 3mm steel, lotsa luck.

I just want to punch stuey in the vagina, but I'm holding back because of the good intention of most of the posters, but , with a few exceptions, they seem like well meaning dumb asses. I'm having trouble controlling my humor trigger finger.

Do you think this has any chance? Seems like a BIG leap from fantasy brainstorming to actual funded action.

But if there is any chance of it happenin', I think you and I should go there and do the "Man who Would Be King". You can be the king and I'll be what's his name,uh, Micheal Caine. Turn that sucker out.

What's your call sign?

yeah ran a bunch of knock outs over the years

talking about drilling a 5/8" hole through 2mm of steel as if it's no big deal the hole by the way needs to be more like 3/4" to keep from ruining the screw..

even with lube maybe 50 2" holes

gotta be old low tech propane oxy

who cares about holes anyway

more to the point

a bunch of presses for CEB blocks to make foundations, retaining walls...

some stick welders & some big ass spot welders to make anchors out of whatever scrap.

as much cable, uclamps, chain...

wouldn't really sweat all that

more important a roof & water & food would be better.

My concern isn't the doing of it - cause you can just ignore or weed out the "not applicable"on the day - it the "not getting a shot due to some un-workable concept" collapsing the whole CR4 engineering credibility.

Number 7 has taken on a huge task of 'sorting', but meantime I'm seeing the 'not thought through' being quoted as fact, to any who will listen.

--------------------

"Hey Guys, big news - the 12'' punch sets are now approved and on their way!"

(us) Huh? - what about the Mag drills and tips? and gensets and fuel?

"What? I thought we were trying to avoid all that with this idea"

(from Haiti crew) "these don't work - you idiots!"

"Hey Guys - you seem to have got the punch idea wrong! - there goes the budget!"

---------------

I.e. I guess we just hope nothing comes back to bite.

I think i understand what your getting at, there are a lot of different concepts being discussed, some of the ones that appear workable if they have a concerted organizational effort put behind them are getting not much attention.

Other ideas that I guess are more exciting are getting more attention, but I'm not yet convinced they are more valid. They might be workable but the return Vs. effort , or ultimate cost might not be attractive.

Then there are the ones in a third category, which are obviously crackpot or too far from mainstream existing practices; fleets of non existing, seaplanes, blimp/hovercraft/sky trains, crazy people suggesting jumbo jets fly there to be converted into 300% scale trailer park,,, oh, wait that ones mine,,, but it's still crackpot.

I mean one can make almost anything work if you throw enough money at it.

I'll be interested where this leads but i'm guessing there is going to be a few demonstration units installed and then it's going to disappear.

Just suggesting 'opinion leverage' opportunities. Seemed to finish on a project compatible note - might help to "start something".

Give the new threads time.

I imagine there is some 'reflecting' going on, given the "just facts" rider.

Might be a few waiting to see what CW7 is 'compiling'

I'd say his PM will be bursting with "pick me!, pick me!" (none by my hand)

But if I can get my head around the ream of site and resources variables and formulate a "set of assumed circumstances" - I'll have a go at kicking them off.

Rangoon to Mandalay Post

02/27/2010 11:56 AM

In 1889, Burma - now Myanmar - opens railroad from Rangoon to Mandalay.

Feb 27 is such a magical day. Hope everyone is celebrating appropriately and responsibly.

I'll have to mark this off topic, because it's on topic w.r.t. your post, and therefore off topic w.r.t. the thread. Or not.

BY THE old Moulmein Pagoda, lookin' lazy at the sea,
There's a Burma girl a-settin', and I know she thinks o' me;
For the wind is in the palm-trees, and the temple-bells they say:
"Come you back, you British soldier; come you back to Mandalay! "
Come you back to Mandalay,
Where the old Flotilla lay:
Can't you 'ear their paddles chunkin' from Rangoon to Mandalay ?
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay!

'Er petticoat was yaller an' 'er little cap was green,
An' 'er name was Supi-yaw-lat - jes' the same as Theebaw's Queen,
An' I seed her first a-smokin' of a whackin' white cheroot,
An' a-wastin' Christian kisses on an 'eathen idol's foot:
Bloomin' idol made o' mud
Wot they called the Great Gawd Budd
Plucky lot she cared for idols when I kissed 'er where she stud!
On the road to Mandalay...

When the mist was on the rice-fields an' the sun was droppin' slow,
She'd git 'er little banjo an' she'd sing "Kulla-lo-lo!
With 'er arm upon my shoulder an' 'er cheek agin my cheek
We useter watch the steamers an' the hathis pilin' teak.
Elephints a-pilin' teak
In the sludgy, squdgy creek,
Where the silence 'ung that 'eavy you was 'arf afraid to speak!
On the road to Mandalay...

But that's all shove be'ind me - long ago an' fur away
An' there ain't no 'busses runnin' from the Bank to Mandalay;
An' I'm learnin' 'ere in London what the ten-year soldier tells:
"If you've 'eard the East a-callin', you won't never 'eed naught else."
No! you won't 'eed nothin' else
But them spicy garlic smells,
An' the sunshine an' the palm-trees an' the tinkly temple-bells;
On the road to Mandalay...

I am sick o' wastin' leather on these gritty pavin'-stones,
An' the blasted English drizzle wakes the fever in my bones;
Tho' I walks with fifty 'ousemaids outer Chelsea to the Strand,
An' they talks a lot o' lovin', but wot do they understand?
Beefy face an' grubby 'and -
Law! wot do they understand?
I've a neater, sweeter maiden in a cleaner, greener land!
On the road to Mandalay...

Ship me somewheres east of Suez, where the best is like the worst,
Where there aren't no Ten Commandments an' a man can raise a thirst;
For the temple-bells are callin', an' it's there that I would be
By the old Moulmein Pagoda, looking lazy at the sea;
On the road to Mandalay,
Where the old Flotilla lay,
With our sick beneath the awnings when we went to Mandalay!
O the road to Mandalay,
Where the flyin'-fishes play,
An' the dawn comes up like thunder outer China 'crost the Bay !

Oh, no, I didn't mean it that way! When I saw what you had posted, a light bulb went off over my pointed little head and all these fond associations began leaking out of rusty crusty old corners. It's all good.

That's a problem with such posting; nuance and innuendo is lost (unless you-know-who is posting pictures). Maybe CR4 can be upgraded to 3D or smellovision or smounds.

I mos'ly remember it as a jolly song on the wireless when I was about 5 or 6yo; I haven't been able to trace who performed it - it might have been these chaps - but I can hardly hear the music in this link.

Veering OT a bit more, IMHO "crunch" is the best aural adjunct to taste for tounds. Apples, pork scratchin's, celery, prawns & small crabs (?softback) done with the shells on (I've only had them done 'just so' in Japan), crisps (US: potato chips), fresh carrots out the garden ... the list goes on.

We need to start be defining a topical post.

I nominate the marvelous UK's Royal Mail, who recently 'lost' an important item I sent via their excellent service. Great job guys, give yourselves a pat on the back as you lurch toward being out of a job.

(to be fair, I have great admiration for the chap/chapess who sits inside the thing and sorts all the incoming. It must be jolly cold in winter. Still, all those birthday cards you open, looking for money/gift vouchers must compensate a little)

I'm so lost

Sorry Benben, that was a bit cheap of me. You seem to have upset a few folk, I'm just pulling your leg. No agenda on my part, though I get the impression you might do better if you re-phrased stuff. Take it form an old hand at getting told off, it's all in how you say it. No intent to offend, just have a chuckle and rethink how you post stuff. Posting when admin have asked you not to is a bad way to go. Just trying to keep the peace.

Re: Off Topic Post

In an effort to keep this thread going...

A U.S. Marine Colonel was about to start the

morning briefing to his staff.
While waiting for the coffee machine to finish its brewing,
the colonel decided to pose a question to all assembled.
He explained that his wife had been a bit frisky the night
before and he failed to get his usual amount of sound
sleep.
He posed the question of just how much of sex was
"work" and how much of it was
"pleasure?"
A Major chimed in with 75-25% in favor of work.
A Captain said it was 50-50%.
A lieutenant responded with 25-75% in favor of pleasure,
depending upon his state of inebriation at the time.
There being no consensus, the colonel turned to the PFC who
was in charge of making the coffee. What was HIS opinion?
Without any hesitation, the young PFC responded,
"Sir,
it has to be 100% pleasure."
The colonel was surprised and, as you might guess, asked
why?
"Well, sir, if there was any work involved, the
officers would have me doing it for them."

The room fell silent.

Hey John, other than slow posting and lack of planes overhead, are there any other obvious effects of the ash cloud for you?

Nothing definite. The car's a bit dusty, but that could be anything - we get dust blown up from the Sahara sometimes.

One of Small's great uncles is s'posed to be coming over from your side of the pond tomorrow - can't see it happening. Bit of a pain, 'cos he could've kept Small's Grandpa occupied for a while. He's getting pretty bad - accused me of stealing the Alfa from him last night - it got quite nasty for a while.

Just been checking into dusty cars - there are loads to be seen around Reading, and a bit of googling brings up reports from all over the country. Some people have been complaining of worstening asthma. I'm not asthmatic, but I have been coughing more than usual (I smoke).

Dust on car (before it rained on Monday), lots of tickly throat coughing and sore tonsils and a runny nose...it was like having a cold when I got up this morning...I find eating helps mask the symptoms!

I haven't had sore tonsils for ages. About 45 years, in fact .

That's coz you're olderer than I; they'd decided whippin' 'em out wasn't the way to go when I got tonsilititis for the 3rd time...but it sure is a good weight loss programme when it really kicks in, as then mine meet in the middle.

All of my last 4 doctors (I move around a lot) said, on checking out my throat for the first time "Your tonsils are swollen". <All together> Oh no they're not, quoth I, they're always like that. I'll spare you the rest of the pointless argument where I describe exactly what my tonsils look like when I do have the dreaded ~itis. On closer inspection, they each realised that I had infected post-nasal drip.

I wonder why my GPs don't like me.

Just spotted an obvious effect. There's a locum on extended stay in the post office over the road, on account of the real postmistress being stuck in China.
