Conspiracy Theories

05/30/2008 10:49 PM

I was looking up something the other day (can't remember what) and a wikipedia page came up involving conspiracy theories. So, I started to wonder what were some of the favorite (or least?) of the people here on CR4. The lone gunman, Elvis still alive, faked lunar landing, ufo's, 9/11, the Kris-Del time machine, or the UFO port disguised as a city bus station that Vermin showed in great detail earlier this year... Zany & looney or down right scary which one(s) do you subscribe to?

Cheers Ferris

RobertOz, Just for Grins and Giggles, take a look at Zeitgeist.com Not all of it is totally factual but enough of it is to make you think. Suggestion: have a good stiff drink ready after the part about 9/11.

Saw the movie, along with a few others that were similar.

Generally, the best you can say is it gives one cause to THINK, and not 'take for granted' the things we've been 'told'.

Unfortunately, for each of these films, there is clearly an agenda of their own, and not all the 'facts' presented are credible.

I have my own theories, which are similar, but, for me, of someone is going to present controversial issues as 'facts', they, themselves, must make sure the facts are straight. The 'bump in the road' is where some things are presented to the largely unformed audience, but someone in the audience knows better ... or differently.

Don't forget, the primary engine behind any conspiracy or 'theory' as such, is the SIG, or Special Interest Group. As most claim to be attacking the 'hiddden agenda' of others, they, in fact, have their own agenda.

Don't get me wrong, but to blindly believe in such as Zeitgeist is a unwise as blindly believing what is told by the government or the press.

The key is to keep the filters on, seperate "believing" from "knowning", consider all that is said, and make your own valued decisions.

GA DCad, That is true in all cases, it is human nature. The science is to look at the situation from as many angles as possible and try to figure out the interested parties, their level of commitment, their goals and agendas. While trying to quantify your own biases. Not always easy when so many stir the pot. Also many times the parties who started are not the parties who finished. The truth is more dynamic than any fiction. Emotions, Egos, Reputations, Convictions, and acts of nature all come into play. Add to that the victor putting their own spin on the history. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

DCaD, Yeah, I kinda thought about them (both the movie and the "official" 9/11 explanation) the same way: We are being lied to, to different degrees and for different agendas.

One of the things I learned working in an official capacity in our (U.S.) government, is that the public is never told all, or even most of the truth on any subject. And we may never find out what truly happened on 11SEPT01.

Hi Blue,

Another movie that can make you 'think' is 'V for Vendetta', if you can look past the 'comic book'. Fictionalized, I know, but with some poignent moments as they attack their government, and begin to understand HOW things got the way they WERE. One particularly thoughtful moment for me, was when 'V', in a public announcement, told all that the real enemy was no further than their mirror ... indeed WE are to blame when things get 'out of control'.

From another angle, and substantiating what you said about "... the public never told all ...", I had a friend who worked for one of the major aviation developers, who told me 'bits' about many things he had worked on (anti-gravity, hypersonic travel, communication with dolphins, VFL communications through the earth [only until they discovered that the Navy was already doing it]). I asked him how they kept these 'secrets' from leaking out, and he told me about 'gray propaganda' ... you leak PART of the truth to a very non-credible source. He said some of the things we 'see' in rags such as 'The National Inquirer' were actually 'leaked' by his group. No one believes such a rag, so fantastic stories about really crazy things just serve to 'deflate' any real truths that might be discovered. An interesting idea ... sounds logical ... wonder if it's true?

Take care ...

Did you actually not meant VLF (Very Low Frequency) Communications when you wrote:-"VFL communications through the earth"?

You could be seen to be starting your own "conspiracy" with mixing up the letters in such a manner!!!

I have done quite a lot of private investigation of VLF with regard to detecting metals and differentiating between them. Quite an interesting hobby that I followed from time to time for the last 40 years or so.....
