A One-Word Phrase For Putting Into Use A Part

01/16/2011 7:55 AM

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,

this time it's my turn to ask a question: I'm looking for a one-word phrase for the description of taking an obsolete or rejected part and performing on it some machining actions in order to put it to use again. I was suggested using the term "salvaging", but it looks too "humane". Without getting into the linguistic ramifications of the meanings, I also thought about refurbishing or recommissioning, but both don't seem very appropriate.

Please help.

I combusted earlier in the bathroom... and she didn't call it scavenging... she has variously called it 'nuking' or 'exterminating'

"Remanufactured" is good (already mentioned).

"Reconditioned" has also been used in the world at large, but I haven't seen it here yet. (I may have missed it in my brief scan.)

Here I present some of the features of the one word that will fulfill your requirements:

  • It is worldwide accepted on all manufacturing industries.
  • You find it in formal internal documents.
  • It can't be misunderstood.
  • Works for novices and pros
  • It is pretty straightforward.
  • It is concise and elegant.
  • It doesn't confer the suject a negative connotation.

And here you are: rework.
