American Railways recently released this visual analogy depicting the US government's ability to pay attention in excruciatingly painful detail to the smallest defects while ignoring the obvious issues.

Statistically this section represents such a small part of the railway system that it doesn't need to be fixed. Any engineer should know that.

This is quite a famous one in railway circles. It shows the effects of high rail temperatures on continuous-welded rail that has had to endure an earthquake.

New Zealand, 3ft 6in gauge. The date is missing, sadly. Imagine hitting that on an 800-ton coal train doing 50mph!

Interesting that there is no visible apparent ground shift coexistent with the track damage. The fence to the right appears fully intact.

The new 'wet behind the ears' engineer fresh out of college wanted to impress his peers that he thought of everything on his rail design....... he showed that he took the on coming winter cold weather and compensated for contraction.

Management decided that the Friday pub lunches would have to stop.

Why?

Because they built that section of track whilst the engineers were on an extended lunch break.

The reason for this says Einstein, is that, 'What is 4-Dimensionally straight gives the illusion of being curved or parabolic when projected on the 3 recognized Dimensions Of Space'.

Oh well fiddle about with whatever OS you have until you can get the 'info' or 'properties' of the image.

This one says:

http://cr4.globalspec.com/PostImages/201012/NothingToWorryAbout2_D1E307B8-B21A-C5E7-FE9235A5E5A8FC8B.jpg

It's handy if you want to search for the image source. C/p "NothingToWorryAbout2" into google, click images, and it will likely there and linked to the parent article.

But not always, as some people have been know to change this information for their own devious reasons.

They are train drivers: in fact it's a train driver and an instructor. The view is out of the front window of a train. The two guys are so busy posing for the photograph that they haven't realised that they had better stand on the brakes PDQ.

When I went looking for a view out of the front window of a train I was going to include a caption something like:- "What the H*** are those idiots doing on the track?", but, when I came across this picture with the driver looking backwards and smiling blissfully unaware of anything ahead of him, I thought it would stand without a caption.

Who ever these two guys are, they clearly have nothing to worry about; just imagine a few seconds later (in slow motion if you can) how their stupid smile runs away while being shuck, and lose their pose in a hilarious maner.
