When the military found out NASA could train monkeys to fly the space shuttle it was only a matter of time before they started their own program and gave them guns.

Effective method Sue, at least you're holding the rifle correctly but the scope is going to give you a nasty cut above the eye when you pull that trigger.

I looked up GOOZ and I think I'll pass that GOOZ card on to uncle Bobsie for being Dictator of the year in my books. He is one of the honored leaders who constantly apply the law of african averages.(I have a whole chicken, you have no chicken, together we have half a chicken. Eeee, what is your problem???) Dear Robert seems to apply this "theory" well to his cash. Anyway, thanks for the GA, and enjoy the season coming.

That's right, but we don't see them, because when they finish their training and are sent to their first mission, they "go bananas" get lost in the city markets, steal fruit, bite boobs, pull hair and guess what else, the rifle? oh, forget about it.

Osama Bin Laden's new recruits cost less than their human counter parts as they require less food, are more agile, and don't require the extreme religious propaganda.

Na, what you need is a Chey Tac Intervention M-200 snipers rifle, good to 2,500 metres not that woosey 1,500 you get with a 50 cal.

Masu, you are correct and I stand corrected. Forget the Barrett! I should have mentioned the Cheytac M-200 instead. I've fired the Barrett before, but not the Cheytac since it was introduced into the service some time after I left the Army.

I did see Mac shooting the rifle on his TV show "Future Weapons" a few years ago....absolute phenomenal reach out and touch someone!

Geeezzz, maybe I should ask Santa for one, eh!? LOL

Chris, I think I can't be with you in this one, considering that this particular blog is not about technology, but graphic humor.

Besides one of the members picked on the other for no reason, and the other over-reacted for too little. Sorry Captn, but don't tell us your mental health is top notch, when you are daring others to a personal confrontation for a nonsense.

And about you 34.5; well, Captn is right, don't do this in real life or you could get a punch or two.

But if you two are toffer than hell and wanna crash heads, I'm not in your way (I'll be standing in Chris little spot).

"Geeezzz, maybe I should ask Santa for one,"

Can I have one too please, pretty please, pretty please with sugar on top!!!

Then again the local police would probably have a coronary, but I could probably get away with calling the single shot version a target rifle so can I have one of those instead, please, please, please!

Masu, no doubt that the local cops would have a coronary even if you had the single round bolt action variant.....labelling it a target rifle may be stretching it a bit! LOL

Anyhow, I figure it would be pretty difficult to obtain one even if you went through all of the red tape with the ATF. Then there's the blasted state laws to contend with (like here in NYS, which has some of the toughest gun laws on the books in our nation)......then if you past muster with the Feds, the state, and the local yocals, then you have to find a FFI approved dealer/gunsmith to accept the shipment of the rifle! Glad I obtained my AR-15 (M-4A2 variant) several years ago before the assault rifle ban! It'd be a real bear right now trying to buy the one I bought. ACKKKK!!!!!! Yes, I do take it to the local gun club range a couple of times a month to remain current.....and there are several other members that own one or more as well or other types of semi-auto rifles, so I'm not alone. I keep it for "Home Defense" and it stays locked up in it's case which in turn is also locked up inside the gun cabinet. I like it because I'm quite familiar with it's workings, advantages as well as it's disadvantages. Some people will view this rifle ownership as extreme and probably label me as a nut case ( I can assure everyone that I'm quite sane....case in point my wife wouldn't allow it if I was unballanced and nutz....see, she's a widow whose first husband "capped" himself 17 years ago with his .357 Magnum....long story....but as I said, she'd not allow weapons inside the house if I was a crazy hoot), but really it's like owning a semi-auto .22 cal rifle with a 10-round clip.....absolutely no different in accuracy and ease of use between the two. Hell, my Ruger 30-06 rifle can do more damage than the other rifle....same same with my 12 gauge pump-action shotgun!

To 34pointwhatever: inappropriate targeting my dear "Ruskie" friend......sniper shots not allowed in this forum. Chris is quite correct in his statement of fact. Take it elsewhere, out of the forum.

So, to what are you inferring? And what are you quals bud? Easy to take snip shots from your keyboard located several thousand Klicks away. It's another thing (and damn difficult) to back up your crappola in person, here and now, n'est pas? My email slot is wide open...... Inquiring minds want to know.....

That's all I have to say about this.

Chris, thanks man. High Fives!!!

I am equally respectful and friendly with both of you, which is a tight spot. I only appeal to the principles of the site, and my own ideas of fairness.

I've seen both of you provide tremendous value to inquiring people, and that is the beauty of this site. I think that personal criticisms decrease the value of any contribution. I have come to see a wealth of experience and knowledge in both of you, and so many others here. This site has a position of being able to teach people, and refine their knowledge, and as such, we should maintain awareness that what we say may be here to read for a very long time...

I don't enjoy policing... so don't think that. I just recognize what makes me uncomfortable. I'm not perfect. I'm just as capable of sniping as anyone. (guests, over-unity, HHO, etc.)

Well you put yourself in the position Chris. And I am more than a little surprised that if it caused me a little up-chuck, that you weren't doubled over in the toilet.

.. but maybe you don't quite understand the captains "touch someone", in this context, is "killing someone", as in a person, not a paper target, or a 'monolith', or dinner.

Tad 'inappropriate' as a hard-on, repeatedly forced into a photo-shop humor thread?

This 'Capton This' posting is really happening to get 'sickening' to say the most, for many of us. It's just not very funny, anymore!

I am for one, taking myself OFF this blog, from casually catching up to new comments, from this rapidly degrading site for now. - I'll see you all fine people on the next one, after you come to your sensibilities, again. Loupy.

I'm very familiar with the euphemisms.

Such humourizing of gruesome things is necessary to the profession. My daughter is a paramedic, and she has told me of similar types of humour in that profession about the various things they see regularly. Having grown up in a military family, and in an era when the US is spending 1 trillion annually on the military, and being a bit of a war history buff, it is inevitable that I would be familiar with such things. I was trained to hunt and shoot at a young age, with an eye towards self-sufficiency, and if necessary, national defence.

It is only as a more mature person, that I have become a pacifist. I believe that there are conditions under which any person might kill. The question is, what are those conditions for oneself? (and how to deal with it after.)

The photo of a baboon with a military weapon conjures many thoughts, and bears directly on the appropriate use of such technology.

"a military weapon"? Even when it was, it looked nothing like that. And the rear locking lug 'action' was never regarded as 'appropriate' to the 'use'.

I have no idea how, or why, he gets where he gets, or why you are following blindly, to the point of mimicking.

I'm sure if your daughter came on 'caption this', saw a foot path, and started the splatted body euphemisms - you be talking counseling, not 'policing'.

And don't be telling me that I wrecked this thread.

Nor make me post further on this.

For those that might be interested, I have never used a fire arm or anything else for that matter to shoot a living thing other than the occasional tree that happened to be in the overshoot area.

I too am a pacifist and deplore the use of violence, but my point is, a rifle is not in itself violent nor deadly any more than a car is, it's the person that is controlling the technology that is violent.

I see nothing wrong in taking something like a rifle and round paper target then using it to better ones personal skills and power of concentration. It's called striving for perfection.

By the way, CR4 is all about technology and the Chi Tec M-200 sniper rifle is definitely at the cutting edge of that field of technology and therefore something that is worthy of discussion on CR4.

Re: Caption This for 12/03/10

Hi Garthh,

First, people don't need to be smart for me to be friendly with them, just friendly back. It helps if they appreciate some of what I have to contribute, but not required.

I tend to follow the 'Judge not' sort of thinking... but I'm not perfect at that either.

I don't profess to be anything except interested and willing to help. Most times, that is enough. I don't require people to be right all the time... and CR4 is a discussion... like life. no one gets out alive... but we can share our experiences and what we think we have learned, with those we can connect with. There is no end to the learning.. and what is true and right today may be false and wrong tomorrow.

I grew up in an intellectually competetive family... and some days that is simply not fun for me. Sometimes I'm guilty of perpetrating the same behaviours I don't like... so I'm working on that. The least I can do is accept others at face value, and try to find the good things behind any facade. I don't promise to like everyone one, or that what I like, everyone else will.

Sometimes, when I don't understand what people are saying... I ask myself: What is their intent here? If I can figure that they have a positive intent, then I will generally stay connected. If not, then not.

So.... I think that Mark has a positive intent, and a lot of knowledge to share, that I would read or listen to. I may discount some of his rougher edges in order to get what I want.. but I've been doing that my whole life, in dealing with my military father and older brothers.

Mark is interactive, and willing to learn and to teach. I imagine that if I had gone through all the experiences in life that he has, that I would be just like him... or you for that matter. People tend to be a product of their environment and experiences, amplified by their personality type.

As I can't yet claim to be rid of degradation, advocacy of violence, sexism, elitism, and several others... I don't want to criticize too heavily those things in others. I do... just want to get along, while I figure things out, because I'm not perfect or right either.

Chris

"like here in NYS, which has some of the toughest gun laws on the books in our nation"

I live in Australia and the laws down here are phenomenally strict but I haven't been involved in shooting for some years so my information may be out of date.

For example, hand guns are out unless you need one for work (security guard etc.) or are a member of the police or military and even then you can only carry them when you are working not as a matter of course.

Assault rifles at completely out regardless of your need with the only exception being the military and police. However, there is a bit of a loop hole when it comes to target shooting. Currently the full bore clubs use rifles that shoot the standard 7.62 mm NATO round and technically you can have a single shot snipers rifle provided your and active member of a full bore rifle club. The thinking behind this goes back to WWI and WWII when the military found themselves short of snipers and people qualified in the use of military style rifles. The idea is that in the event of war the people from these clubs could quickly be retrained in military tactics to either act as or teach snipers how to ply their trade.

So, the thinking goes like this, since a single shot rifle is not an assault rifle it isn't banned outright and all the other rifles used by full bore clubs are plain single shot snipers rifles with peep sites, therefore, the M-200 would fall under the category of target rifles and be allowed. You might have to add standard peep sites but that wouldn't be difficult and switching it back to telescopic sites would take all of a couple of minutes.

Mind you, I don't think the other club members would be too please when you rocked up with a rifle that was capable of shooting double possible scores on a daily basis. Talk about people turning green with envy then red with rage.

By the way, have you noticed that like nearly every other thread on CR4 it's found itself discussing one of the standard topics of shooting & firearms, cars & fast driving or aircraft & aviation.
